Default Fiesta RST Restoration

Hello all,

Thought i would post some pics of my fiesta RS Turbo, picked her up about 3 months ago looking very tired with a very poorly engine. It has had a bucket load of money already spent on it by previous owners and a book full of history, but the best part and the main reason i bought it was because the shell was solid with what appeared to be hardly any rot, even in the usual places.

Plan is to rebuild and restore to its former glory, at the minute going for a stripped out track build, but that may change along the lines.

So here are some pics of work that has been done so far...

Here she is more or less when we 1st got it back to our garage...

Then the stripping began...

Then it was time to tackle the engine, strip and see whats exaclty had gone wrong....

Had a tiny hole in number 2, so have managed to source a freshly rebuilt bottom end ready to go back in.

Suspension was the next job, x2 new lower arms and full set of koni's with 35mm springs, also painted the rear subframe etc, drums and arches.

Also has a set of very nice Hi Spec Calipers with good discs and pads....

Car is now totally stripped, engine is out, head is off for skimming etc, painting prep being carried out this weekend

Managed to source a set of these gorgeous magnesium compomotive wheels, but needed some tlc also so had them powder coated...

They now look great, had to get them on to see how they looked...

Awesome, well should be when finished. Will try and keep this thread updated as she progresses.

few more updates as she is starting to progress now...

Head off ready to be sent for testing, acid cleaning and skimming....

Some final prepping before painting... (plus just had to offer the new scorpion back box up to the car to see what it looked like! awesome!)

Off being painted this weekend, cant wait to see it once done.

Took the week off work, so hopefully get it all back together and maybe even running!!!

P.S require x2 front seats and door cards if anybody has any, must be mint please.

well booked the week off work to crack on with build, so started cleaning and painting...

Sump looked tired, new block had previously been painted black but looked too bland so from this...

to this....

much better!, then head built back up and fitted....

Next time to tidy up the rocker cover and charge pipe...

then cleaned up the inlet manifold, this might still get painted...

on with some more engine bay stripping and cleaning...

battery tray had seen better days so that was the next job...

with the exterior having all new paint, just made the inside look even worse so....

Before.....

During, look at the difference!...

Boot floor done....

now to finish the rest....

Before...

after....

Next job, the gearbox, stripped cleaned and a new coat of paint....

Then last job of the day, paint buffing ready to be demasked and parts refitted tomorrow! getting exciting now!!!

Right, time for some more updates on progress...

Rear lights, carpet and rear trims in....

RS turbo decal and numbers plates on....

Time to get the engine back in next....

Nearly built up, painted, gearbox on ready to go in....

Its in....

Top end built up, looking good!....

Next was the bumpers, got them back from the paint shop, looked amazing and couldnt wait to get them on.....

Awesome! starting to look like a car again now, fitted the new ford badges too!

Got some compomotive decals for the wheels, so on they went...

Looking good now, starting to get exciting and making all the hard work, time and effort worth it....

Well pleased so far!!!.

Engine was then al back in and built up ready to be fired up! started 1st click and purred into life!!!! result!!!.

Only thing was, when we went to put the drive shafts back in, found the gearbox inards had collapased!!!!

So the box has got to come out again now to be rebuilt, but hey all part of the fun i suppose!

So got on with fitting the back bumper instead....

Looking good!

Infact we decided the car was simply too nice to track, the shell is mint and still has the original wings and front panel! so its now going back on the road, only thing we sold the interior!!!!

But managed to source on on ebay, so interior and seats belts all to go back in, and that gearbox to rebuild.

Will post some more when done!

Thanks for all the comments, yeah the shell is really solid, only needed one small patch of welding in the passenger foot well. Even has the original wings and front panel, the petrol cap was all good to when stripped back, boot had a small amount of rust round wiper as usual but cut that out completely and patched up so should stay away.

Got the box out again today to rebuild, but forgot need a grabber to get 5th gear out so hoping to borrow one of a friend who works at ford, if not seen one for sale on fleabay!

Also, comments re amber lights, you are right, would look much better, so ordered a full set this morning! ha

Right ok, quick progress update. Gone from nothing much happening to all out to finally get her finished...

Engine all back in and plumbed up.

Had to change the exhaust as the old scorpion had been bodged badly, so now has a mongoose full system with powerflex bushes.

Rear screen in, but managed to smash one of the rear opening quarter windows!

Other than that, looking good!

Well pleased with how she was looking, here is a short vid of it running, sweet as a nut, no smoke, no noise, even no noisey cvh tapping! awesome!

Short vid here of it running...
http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...t=IMG_0954.flv

Decided to take it for a short test drive, only to find that the suspension was too low with the 55mm springs, did not want to chop and butcher the arches so a set of 35mm springs went on.

Plus after taking some advice from you guys on here, she now has the original amber indicators.

Also got the door handles back on, door locks in, new front fog and spot lamps fitted (old ones where cracked), brand new wing mirrors fitted, side repeators on.....

Now also managed to source a full new interior after selling the one we took out. Plus now have all the other interior trim parts that we also chucked, ready to go back in.

Seats back in....

Upwards and onwards now! hopefully get it all back together ready for MOT this weekend!!!

Fingers crossed!

further update, 95% done now!

Rear quarter sourced and back in, front screen sourced and back in. All interior trim sourced and installed.

Plus had it proffesionally valated yesterday, looks stunning inside as well now.

Some updated pics...

Looking great now, just some little bits to sort like boot release, reverse switch etc. Plus need some orange side repeators now and a few other little finishing bits!

Sadly though, she will have to go once complete as new the funds.

Any ideas what she is worth???

Done approx 130miles but all everything rebuilt as shown above, folder full of hsitory, all old mots and history back to year of manufacture. Now back in standard spec other than koni suspension, hi spec 4 pot brakes, pace intercooler, pace radiator, k&n, samcos and full mongose exhaust. Now totally mint, no rot anywhere, all original panels inc wings and front panel.

Any ideas what we should put it up for??? #

Another update...

Well, 98% Done now!!!

New reverse switch fitted.
New fan switch fitted.
New Sump plug and washer fitted.
Tracking was a mile out, so sorted.
35mm springs fitted.

Plus finished the underneath, now all fully waxoiled...

Looking great and thought we were finally all done, untill it decided to develop and electrical fault, looks like a bad earth somewhere or to do with an alarm that used to be on the car, so have a friend who is an auto electrician coming out to give it a once over.

Then, its MOT time!!!, then sale time!
