Escort RS Turbo S2 resto G262 MYB
Been looking around at a few potential projects for a while now and have been 'umming and aahing' about a few and trying to convince the Mrs that i need a new project (not easy with a six month old son!) but this turned up on my doorstep in the next village down. The lad had poured a load of dollar into it and he was never going to get back and was looking to buy his first house so decided to break the car up and what you see here was to be broke down to bear bones and fragged but i couldn't see that happen to the old girl and made him an offer as it stood before he took any more off and had a her recovered back to my place for being stripped down further BUT she will see the road again !!!
A genuine 90 spec car in Radiant Red
The top of pistons 1 and 4 have made contact with the head where the lad stuck a bigger turbo on and whacked the boost up so will need a rebore and some 0.5 pistons plus i've got to source the rest of the bits he took off and sold so some work there unless i get a complete engine for direct swap.
She needs a bit of work around the usual rusty roof area, the front panel around the bumper mounting points, rear wheelarch lip, the lower rear of the n/s quarter both inner and outer and the lad had put a piece of new rear sill on the drivers side but it's not quite done to my taste so that will be re-done.
Took the carpet up with much trepidation and found ......
..... 100% perfection; couldn't believe my luck! The chassis rails, fuse box, battery tray, front crossmember, wheel well, A posts and other usually suspect area are also spot and 100% too which is a result.
She's had a fair few owners and has no history aside from the last couple of MOT's and V5 which isn't the most desirable traits for a RS BUT she was cheap enough and is solid in most of the right places, has VIN and clour tags with original engine block and etched glass all round so is worth saving from the scrapper IMO. Things are a little tight on the money side at the mo with my other half being off work to look after my little man so i'm gonna build her back up on a budget. Found a rear bumper for 99p, got another kit (so i can make up a one good one from two) for £12.50, a pair of bonnet vents for £10 and got a 90 spec bumper for £17.50 so far ..... good old eBay !
Progress probably isn't gonna be lightning quick but will keep you up to date!
Cheers
James
