my 1982 mk3 escort ghia
I have just started to restore my 82 5 door escort ghia. the car has been in my family since 1986 when my dad bought it.i have fully rebuilt the engine and gearbox and have a loft and a shedfull of spare parts.the car is in need of.
. new wings
. front panel
. front crossmember
. scuttle panel
. inner wing
all the parts are now cut off and new panels are waiting to be fitted. i can do a bit of welding myself but am still a bit of a novice when it comes to it. in the mean time, i have been doing lots of cleaning of the engine bay. my next job is to remove and tidy up the servo and master cylinder and give them a clean up and a lick of paint. i will add pictures when i can, cheers

after ripping panels off, i had to clamp some back on as it looked terrible.
concentating on the front end 1st, the rest is'nt that bad ( hopefully ) so once the engine bay is clean and painted, and panels are back on i will fit the engine, get it going and move on to the back end.
loads of little patches like this, but it all adds up
and the other side
the old girls a bit of a mess at the moment, but she is 26 years old!!
loads of more black crap
after a slight clean
bit better, but a long way to go.

my 1st attempt at welding was not the best, but its better than it was.
after a bit of cutting
bit of dodgy welding. my 1st attempt so plz go easy lol
lots of filler to cover the mess i had made. grinded it all back 1st, welded any holes in that i could and gave it a coating of zinc primer.
a rub down and primer
still needs flatting down with a bit of sandpaper, but its better than what was there b4.
bit better than before.
the cvh lump had suffered a bit of an oil leak in its time. thankfully, this had preserved the bulk head.
after a bit of parrafin came up like this.
i know which one i prefer!!

Hi and welcome to pf
you know you said you were gonna clean up the servo and master cylinder, careful what you use as i completely destroyed on once with thinners it affected the diaphragm inside and when fitted it leaked. just thought i'd warn you.

only one tiny hole in the seam under the fuse box, just needs treating and perhaps just a bit of seam sealer
just adding a few pics of how the car looks now. will only be starting back on her next week.
floor is more or less perfect, part from a hole the size of a 10 pence piece in the pass side footwell and a s hole in the drivers side but these wikll be easy fixes.
inner sills are mint as you can see.
inner wing pass side, mint
drivers side needs a repair
engine bay
Ttfn

not much progress. fitted new drivers side inner wing
welded a patch on the drivers side sill ( under wing )
same on drivers side. couple of holes where id ginded the metal a little too much and the welder blowed a hole in the metal.
small hole needs patching up
drivers side floorpan
passenger side. only small holes. these are the only holes on the whole floor so not bad considering.
before i started
looked pretty good but it had its problems
rear quarter
thats all folks

Have now welded the front crossmember in place and front panel and got the bonnet lined up (kind of). Next job is to get the scuttle lined up and welded and then the wings and then get a bit of paint on it and the engine back in. Will add some new pics in the week. Cheers

worked on the car yesterday, have bought a new tailgate but when i took the glass out the lip that you cannot see when the glass is fitted has a little rust in a few places so grinded down the worst of it, treated it with a little rust remedy ( magical stuff ) and skimmed a little filler over it. gonna repair the holes in the floor panel on tuesday and then see about getting the engine bay sprayed and get the engine bay dressed up ready for the engine.

Looks Good, i've got a 1984 5 door bonus luckily mines all solid except the seams along the top of the front wings and the 2.0 ZVH on twin 40's takes care of the performance side of things plus the fact it has no interior helps
