Default Ford Focus 1.8 ZETEC RS brake conversion

Hiya,

i've got a ford focus 1.8 ZETEC MK1 and i have just recently bought focus RS brake disks and calibers i am a total novice and i thought it would have been a easy straight fit obviously i was WRONG! and i am just wondering if anyone has attempted a project like this already and what parts would i need to complete the conversion and how much more money would i need to spend in additional parts. PLEASE GIVE ME A FULL PARTS LIST OF WHAT I NEED TO COMPLETE THE CONVERSION.

THANKS.

Everything you need to do the switch will have to be custom made.

The ST170 conversion is MILES cheaper and very straightforward and, when bled properly they are absolutely awesome!

Unless you like pain, frustration and unnecessary expense of course?

yer thanks Dave its just that i have already got the RS brakes just hoping to have them on the car but dosent look its going to happen i thought it was as simple as gettin new RS brackets and hubs maybe but if your saying custome making parts thats out of the question i'm on a tight budget.

The specs on your car are very intresting i was thinking of getting a rear brake conversion as well changing the back drums to disks of a ford focus 2.0 litre which is simple enough to do i hope i was thinking would it effect my brake balancing if i do that because i will have ford focus 1.8 disks on the front of the car and 2.0 ones on the back so obviously the back ones will be bigger than the front how does that work? and also are black diamond disks any good i heard there crack quckily?

Focus rear discs are solid, not vented like the front, and the callipers have smaller pistons and smaller pads. All non ST/RS use the same front discs.

Get the ST170 front knuckles and brakes it's just a straight swop. ST rear brakes use a slightly larger disc but the same calliper and pads as Standard.

To attempt the conversion, you will need to get a pair of ST170 hubs, as the 1.8's are useless. I swapped my 1.4 one's over to these, then had Compbrake make me up some custom bells and rotors, then fitting some Wilwood 6 pots

It's doable, I made these test brackets out of some light alloy after basically making theme first outta cardboard... All I have to do is get some FRS discs, workout what the offset difference is and then got some Cut by a local machining(sp) Company...

Dont really see what the fuss is.

IF and it's a big IF your lucky, you may see some RS hubs on Ebay, it's a simple swap then. Other than that just keep your eyes open for some ST170 ones as there are the next best thing. The 2 ltr and 1.8 Hubs are the same (SHIT)

NO mate, you need a bracket with the ST hub, if you are lucky enough to find RS Hubs just swap em over and your away.

rs hubs wont work,

the shock size is different so your shocks wont fit in the hub ,

What Mark said, also an issue with steering arms. Just get ST170 and work your way from there
