Cosworth KA - 2015.......what to do??
#1
Cosworth KA - 2018.......remembered my log in !
Time for a new project folks.
After having to do a lot of welding when we built B9KOS back up i decided i wanted to build something a bit newer.
First choice was obviously a Focus but with so many conversions already complete and a fair few on the go
i decided it would be good to do something different. Mk6 Fiesta, Focus estate and even a Cougar were
considered before i decided on a Ka
The project has three main components:
1. One Ford Ka shell
2. One Cosworth YB
3. Someone to do the fabrication work
The problem off getting a suitable base vehicle was solved when i contacted MAD-EVO4 about his ex-track Ka that
he had started to break for spares to start a new project himself.

The plan is based on a completion date of July 2008 hopefully to allow it to 'debut' at either Ford Fair or National Day.
To start with we need to strip all the present running gear and remaining interior out and then transport the bare shell
to Adrenaline Race and Performance to let Danny do the required fab work to enable it to be rwd and YB powered.
Spec
Engine: Standard YB with T34 0.63, L8 with coilpacks, Swedish style plenum and a set of 55lb Siemens injectors.
Gearbox: T5 then hopefully a sequential Mullet rwd
Front Suspension: Adjustable TCAs, Compression struts etc
Rear Suspension: WRC cradle/lateral links set up to enable the rear track to be made to fit the 'Ford Racing' arches.
Brakes: Floor mounted pedal box, APs and vertical hydraulic handbrake.

Cool Project, is this gonna have tiger strips, blue wheels, great big gay spolier on the back? lol
there are a few YB'd Ka's using an Evo gearbox which is cool, so this should be intresting

Proper cars but I bet the build costs are MASSIVE.
Awesome project though

I was referring more to the fact that it would be RWD with a short wheelbase, and how it would handle.

Yeah sorry, What I mean was.. I said to Danny myself "I take it, its going 4x4 due to the wheel base?"
He then said , no its not due to the mounting etc.. so its going RWD, But Danny seems to be sure it'll handle all ok with the work being done

Nice one Richie, glad you got on and went with it, I've been dying to say for about 6 bloody months!
Gonna be a proper little weapon, hurry up and get it done ahead of schedule so B9 can get the treatment it deserves!

Thanks for all the comments guys
The intention is for it to be a proper sleeper which is the main reason for going rwd. The DJM versions use the Evo gearbox and transfer box with the engine mounted transverse like an Evo. I want the engine in the classic in line configuration, which would mean a bonnet bulge to rival B9KOS' rear spoiler if the engine was mounted to allow the front driveshafts to line up. There will be no tiger stripes or comedy spoilers and certainly no colourful wheels The only give away externally will be the 'Ford Racing' arches (staying black), privacy glass (to hide the roll cage) and the fact that its will mainly be going sideways
The handling is something that has been thought about alot with the wheel base being approx 6 inches shorter than a Escort/Focos conversion. The reduction in track should help to make it more balanced
The yellow SVM was powered by a transverse Zetec turbo, a Puma front end and ran on 19 centrelocks

Mk 2 Escort wheelbase = 2408mm
Talbot Sunbeam wheelbase = 2413mm
short yes but no shorter than some other rear drive cars that have also seen similar power
