s1 cab finally up and running
Bought this cab 18 months ago paid 200 quid for it. It wasn't in the best of condition, but it had a good floor and decent back arches, although it did need new front wings, inner wings, bonnet, doors, boot, kit and a few other bits. Only bought it for a bit of a project but it soon escallated into a big project, ha ha! So it was time to start stripping it to its shell.
So now the car was stripped we were unsure weather to keep the xr3i engine or go down the turbo route, so after a bit of discussion we decided to go down the turbo option. To me there was no option, but my mate dave, who's car it is was a bit unsure, but i soon persuaded him, ha ha! It has to be done! So it was now time to take the engine out and the wiring.
At this point dave was worried as he wasn't sure that we would remember where all the nuts, bolts and screws go, ha ha! So it was now time to send it to the bodyshop for its new panels to be fitted and a good lick of diamond white. So whilst the car was there we were still short of a lot of parts, so the hunt was on. Trying to find a good pair of doors wasn't easy, got some in the end thougth. Ebay turned up a lot of the parts, got a mint dashboard from a guy in liverpool for 100 quid which i thought was a bit of a bargin. So we still needed the biggest part of our shopping list which was and engine and a loom. We was in luck though as the guy doing the painting had a rotten s1 turbo which had a gud engine and a good bodykit and a lot of other usable bits, so that was snapped up at a pretty good price.
So whilst the car was being painted me and dave set about stripping the s1. We stripped it to the bare shell and then cleaned up the parts we wanted to use and had parts powder coated, the windows where then sent in to be tinted lightly smoked as we just wanted as close to a bronze tint as we could get like a s1 would be. Both the front and the rear anti roll bars were sent to be powder coated silver and the suspension was coated to blue and yellow, looks mint. Decided on an electric roof rather the the naff manual one, so ebay turned up and motor and wiring for it. The seats were fettled with to make a mint set out of the four that we had, fitted new foams in the bases. Got a nice gear box of ebay too, only didn't last long as couldn't get gears without a lot of force and crunching, so swapped it with the one out of the s1, much better!
So finally got the car back from the bodyshop after ten months of mythering, but give him credit hes done a nice job. Time to dig out all those nuts and bolts now and try to fit it all back together. Got all the car built up and running new roof load of other new parts. Took the car for mot and then to well lane for setting up, had a little bad luck at this point, the amal valve wasn't getting a feed and the fuel ecu wasn't getting any power so it was back home to start tracing wires, luckily it didn't take long there was a break in the wire to the amal valve and a faulty relay for the feul ecu, problem solved! So back to well lane we went they fitted a chip and a -31 actuator and it made 183bhp on the rollers, ha ha! Put a big grin on my face, so its now time for the shows can't wait for fordfair!
Hope you all like it
