Default XR2 Sprint/Hill climb car

Hi all, well, my Mk2 Escort is gonna take a while so I've bought a new toy to keep my competition licence "well used" . I want to enter a few cheap Sprints and stuff, but the main thing is I don't want to spend much on the car due to the fact my Gp4 car needs alot (as in everything!) doing. Hence this new toy. I've got loads of tyres and bits and bobs left from my old XR2 Tarmac spec rally car, so i plan to build a fun toy for peanuts.
Here's the new toy, came with Ported head, uprated cam, manifold, vibratechnics mounts and it's not to bad (cheers to "The Saint" off here for the car)Plans are slicks, home made coilovres, harnesses, alot of wieght loss, lose the sunroof and a few other MSA spec things along the way.

and I've lost all this wieght so far!

shall be watchin this!

What class will you run this in?

Hope fully apply for my licence next month, does the basic licence limit you to what class you can run in?

Good luck with it!

I have a non race nat. B (rally licence) so for sprints and hill climbs I can do whatever I want.I cant remember what it is but my wifes licence is the minimum licence, she can navigate and enter sprints. Ref the spec, I've gotta find out but I think there's a class where you can lose loadsa weight, but you still gotta keep your back seat. I'll have a chat with the guy from the ACSMC Sprint championship soon and post the findings up here.

Here's my old XR2 which went for peanuts on ebay, I wish I'd bid now.

thanks mate!

Yeah, nat B was the one I was going to apply for after i've had a medical? Thought you had to get signatures on that before you could race in the series or any drive any higher powered cars??

I'll do a bit more research perhaps!

Be cool if yu could post em up!

cheers again!

You only need sigs when you upgrade to a Nat A, and unless ya doing BIG money events u aint gonna need that. Nat B is the medical, written test and Gran Turismo driving test, I did mine on gravel in a Mk2, I was given an ex works Micra if I'd of wanted which would of been easier, but not as fun. and if u hit a cone, Ł250+ and start all again!

well, it only owes me about Ł600 so far all in, here it is at the mo, I'll have it finished soon.A few bits of welding (strengthening) to do, harnesses, wiring and we're there, and best of all, it's still looks like an XR2 and drives like one. My theory is, if you want a rally car, buy a rally car. This is good as it is.

centre console is worth putting on ebay as it looks like a festival one which were quite rare at one point.

Because it is front left under the hood, so when u put it in the back, you get a lot more space for an MFI metering head, or a big airfilter for EFI etc etc....

A 205 1.6 gti ... tut tut tut - you should've gone for a lil 1.9- we've got one and dad wants to get rid
I've begged him not to, but I s'pose we need the room. Especially seeing as he keeps fiddling with his fiesta, getting it ready for brands next month.
Should be good, he's a race virgin..hehe!

Nah, I think !.6's are better, lighter and alot more revier, and when you look at what classes you have to go into when competing aswell, a 1.9 Pug would be up there with XE powered Gp4 Escorts and stuff where it wouldn't stand a chance. Still all great cars though!lol.

True what you say about classes.
Sprinting has gone mad with the classes...Classes a1 and a2 used to be a nice lil standard, cheap classes for people who want to get involved in motorsport for as little money as possible. Now they're up against ridiculous cars.
Oh well, hopefully I'll be able to get to more sprint/race meeting now i dont work weekend ... hurrah!

not to sure matey, I gotta find out soon though as I want to enter the Abingdon sprint. It's a fairly standard car, but looking through the blue book and I get confused, rallying was so much easier!!!lol.

exactly, but the class above that seems OK, I spoke to a guy online t'other day who runs that awesome red Zetec Mk1 Fiesta and he has to go in "sports Libre" class against Radicals etc! due to his car not having had a zetec fitted at the factory or something? But he still does allright!

yeah fair play if he keeps up with radicals times! havnt really looked into the other classes but got a friend who races in the "race car" category with a 1275 mini keeps up with plenty of bigger engined cars!

you mean the modified production class? says you will need a cage then though?

have to compare times both 1.6

That's it, modded prod. I didn't think you needed a cage for that? Have you seen the way of getting standard seats though scrutineering by welding the reclining bits up?

Cheeky trick! I'd do that but i really need some buckets (which i cant be arsed to pay for )cos i'm a lanky bastard and cant fit in my gti with a lid on!

if you look under safety in section L it says what cage each class must comply with or it recommends(then refer to section Q) correct me if i'm wrong though

Modded prod is the class i would like to enter but its gonna start to stop being cheap if i have to buy a cage.
