World Record Engine Change - Ford Escort
So came across this video on Youtube and found it totally fascinating.
The only questions I have though is do you think there was any mods done to make that easier? for example the bottom two engine mounts take forever to get off and the wiring loom to the alternator etc, I wondered if they perhaps put everything on one big loom and just unplugged it and perhaps had it sitting on one mount with one bolt or something?
Regardless of the age of the video its still remarkable!
What ya reckon?

I would Think...
Enough fuel in the carb to get it to drive 10 metres..
hookup coil power, starter motor power so engine can start and run left in 1st so no gear lever hookup needed
not bother bolting engine down
so basically drive shafts slid in by the 2 blokes underneath as the engines dropped down into it, dropped onto its mounts, connect up clutch cable
then the obvious, engine lifting tool was hooked on, bonnet not bolted on just fixed with the bonnet release etc

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Never thought of that! Although, I don't find very likely, as everything is going to of been loosened off, I just kind of imagined, if it was for a world record, old Norris Mc Squirter would of checked things like an engine in the boot etc!? Lol
Bet wheeler dealers Ed could of done it in half that time, with 'my mate Paul', judging by how easy everything is on that programme!?

Lol apologies, I figured it might have been but couldn't see another copy of it when I searched whoops!
I see your point but surely Hector the Inspector would have checked something like that and if there was an engine int he back there is no way the suspension would still be that high up and bouncy surely?

Its genuine but its massively modified, diff welded up so only needs one shaft etc, no bolts on the mounts for anything, minimal things to connect up in terms of electrics and fuelling.
Its got NOTHING to do with a normal engine change, but its interesting none the less just in terms of how they have adapted it to be quicker to change more than the actual changing itself.
Good forces team building exercise too.

Every time I see this on a forum, or on FB there are loads of people crying bullshit, and generally crying about it. It amazes me why that's the case.
It's blatantly obvious that it's massively modified specifically for the record atempt, with everything being as simple as it possibly can be. I've seen people even moan that "the bonnet wouldn't come off that quickly"
It's clear that there's only one wheel drive (hence the 'shimmy' at the end, that some people interpret as rear wheel drive)
Also, it was an official Guinness record - and take it from me, they don't mess about and there would be no way at all it would have got the record if it was a rear engined trick.

So many people don't seem to realise how little it takes for a car to move a few foot!
