Default amp power switch

Hi just a quick question.
I am wiring up an amp and was wondering could i use a spare window demister switch as a on off button and how would i go about this? I have a 55plate focus.

Thanks

Amp remote is on most headunits and blue in colour. When you turn on head unit this will be 12volts and connects to amp switch+.

Hope this helps

I did exactly this with a redundant beacon switch on an escort van, used it to remotely switch 3 different amps. From what I recall i ended up using a multi meter as you need to find switched live.

Amp make/model is irrelevant, as long as it has 12v remote input it will work. Remember to have separate feed for main amp power direct from battery

You wont need the remote from the head unit, you just want to use the switch to provide 12v on/off to turn amp on/off. Therefore all you need to do is determine which wire is the switched 12v supply for demister and connect instead to amp remote input

You gonna need a multi meter to check which wires you can use. I would do a resistance check across the wires then work the switch to see which wires you can use.

Im sorry, without using a multi meter I wouldnt know from memory. But yes what you are looking for is +12v from multi meter when you turn switch on. It may take a while to suss it out, trial and error. Then when you have found correct one, add a length of wire and run to amp/s

just get a simple on/off switch from maplins and use that instead of this faffing about. plus you can hide it if you wish. mine is in the centre console - replaced the cig lighter port.
