Anyone got one of these lying around? inc PICS
Hi folks,
On the way to running up 371bhp at Interpro the other day my car left two large blocks of rubber on the rollers after it was driven out. They were from my prop shaft - where it joins on to the back of the gearbox.
My car is a 1991 4 x 4 Saph. Doug Stirling kindly gave me an old (but intact) bush to tide me over while I ordered a new one, but sadly it's not the right style for my car.
Pics:
My old dead bush - think you can see the problem! (Note the metal shim/spigot type bit in the centre of the bush)
Bush Doug lent me (£54 from Ford, wrong type for my car, no centre shim/spigot):
Bush bought from Deflex - £49 (also wrong type for my car, and they don't do one like my first pic ):
My local Ford dealer can't supply the bush I need (see the top pic) - they tell me I need to buy a whole new propshaft with bush at £392!!!! Bollocks to that!
I called Woodford Garage and they told me that 1992 Saphs and Escos were different to my early 4 x 4 set up, and they suggested either buying an EsCos rear prop (that would then fit the orange Deflex bush) or buying the £392 shaft from Ford!
So has anyone got one of these lying around they don't need? Or know where I can get one specifically like the one in my first pic? I'm sure someone else with a 4x4 has had a similar problem...
Anyone know if an Escos prop shaft would bolt up to the Orange bush in the pic and my gear box? Is it that simple?
HELP please!!!!
Simon

Simon - does it have "GAF31" written on it anywhere?
I had a problem with a 2wd MT75 sierra, mine was this type. I got the same story from ford and eventually ended up with one from a local prop specialist. I was told it was from a BMW, so what Tony is saying sounds right. Sorry I can't remember what model.
I may still have the prop lying around, I'll have a look in a bit and see
Neil.

Now this is what Passionford is all about = thanks everyone so far!
Deflex tell me they only do the Orange one pictured above - I'm not sure if they will do custom bits, but if they can make the orange one I'm sure they 'could' make the one I need if there was the demand / the money! I'll ask them.... good idea Creedy!
Found an American website selling Beemer 635i prop bushs, similar in shape / style to the Wrong bushes pictured above - seems like Tony, Ben and Neil are all on to something.
Will try BMW parts dept for a 535i 1990 and see what they come up with. Thanks Benn

GOETZE

810
88.0890
70
SHORE

I've found a GOETZE web site- Indian company selling loads of engine parts to major manufacturers - doubt they'll want to send me just the one then!

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news here...
I deal with one of the biggest propshaft manufacturers and suppliers of parts to assemble props in the UK and I had to source one of these for DeanSaff recently for his 4x4.
I was told it was the only one they could get after a week of searching and it was about £110+VAT
I can have another go for you.... but I wont hold out much hope.

The Knife, Lloyd etc CHEERS VERY MUCHLY
Doug, nearly spat out my beer reading your post with the pics - sheer comedy genius !!
If anyone has got one like the one in the pics with the big green tick on it then I'll very happily send some spondulies to you if you could post it to me. Think a run to Coventry could be cool, but I'm not in a huge rush, so can wait for postage no problem.
Lloyd, deffo appreciate what you're doing and the offer of FOC, but I'd feel better if I at least funded some for ya!
Thanks Doug for following this up for me - I'm off out on the lash now, will be back on in the morning!
THANK YOU PASSIONFORD PEOPLE!!

Dont laugh but i think all the old type 9 gearboxes had the same doughnut, cos i had a 1800 prop and a 2.9 xr4x4 prop and they were the same. From memory a few years ago when i had my 4x4 cos they were the same as. The gaf 31's and 41's are only for 2wd mt75's and they only come complete with prop as they are 'supposed' to be balanced as one unit

Simon,
I think I have one you can have its a good 2nd Hand version i'll check later....but there is another way around the problem...some wont like the idea but you can modify for little cost the back prop to take a normal transit flange then put the mating flange on your box....it removes the bush....some will say it has adverse effects but most uprated boxes run this configuration anyway....
I'll have a look for the doughnut if you still need one...
Regards
Ian
