Ok, paid over the top for a 01 Mk3, missed fired etc at 2000 rpm and above, a google search leaded to coils, which leaded to a bit of a test and find coil pack in car OK, had been replaced (to the square plug type)
Ok -- ECU looking like its blown.
Got another ECU from affordable parts, at great cost, fitted.
And of coarse . fords PATS immobiliser kicked in.

Help, please anyone... just want to get this up and running cheaply, (I'm 100 miles from nearest ford dealership.

Can ??? the two ecu's been run together, so to speak , eg -- wireing up so that the original ecu takes care of the PATS immobiliser, and the 2nd hand ecu that I bought runs the motor/car ???

could this be done ??

On the mk2 mondeo when I did a ecu swop over I used the ring that goes round egnishion barrel and the chip out of the key . And I would of for it would be very simler on you mondeo with a chip in the key

You would do best to send your ecu off to be repaired at BBA REMAN

As said above, you need the transponder from around the ignition barrel and chip from the key. The mk3 uses the same type of key. Local scrappies are pretty plentiful for the mk3 now as they are at the bottom of their value so hopefully it should be fairly easy to find one.

I've swapped the ECU, I don't have the matching key for that ECU.
car does nothing but bring up dash lights.

Have tried -- Parts dealer/ scappies don't seem to keep matching (or any keys) down here

I'd chalk it down to a bad experience and source another ecu that comes with the transponder ring and key chip. Plug and play then

I'm in tokoroa, new zealand.
and only paid 200 GBP (apox) for car, plus 100 (wasted) on a replacement ecu.
scappies would only offer me 30 GBP for it.

Yes, agree.
But haven't yet find a scrapie that sells the matching key to ecu.

Try searching for them on eBay. Rather than searching for an ecu search for mondeo breaking etc and message the seller asking how much for the ecu, key and transponder etc

Yes you are right.
but its a bit of a case of limit funds and tools/gear to test.
Still got this problem, replaced ECU/Key/ and another computer box, plus coils/leads bought as a package deal.
Same problem, it, may, may be a little better ?? Eg it'll Rev a bit higher....

Yeah I hear u on the limited funds I'm always in the same boat lol. I'm lucky I work in a garage, if I had to pay someone else to fix my cars I don't think I would be able to afford to drive! To be honest without any testing equipment like a diagnostic scanner (not just a fault code reader) and some test equipment it can be near on impossible to diagnose modern cars. What exactly is it doing mate?
