Hopefully that will sort the issue out mate, let us know if the new parts fix the problem.

Air/fuel can be done using a co reader but is better done with a wideband lambda setup. Most old school ford places would be able to sort that out for you for a reasonable amount, although most would probably be more used to RS Turbo's.

Hello mate what got it running. As for the rev counter it may not have the green wire plunged at the back of it.

can you get to the back of the clocks when they are plugged in to test if theres 12v and the pulse at the rev counter itself?

To fordsteve77...thanks for all your hard work looking into this problem. I am about to embark on the same journey as my 1989 MFI has exactly the same symptoms as you did.

Can you just confirm that it was the replacement of the ignition amp/module that got your car running?

Cheers.

Well I replaced the following 3 which I think all had a part in the conclusion of the problem

1: speed sensing module
2: fuel pump relay
3: ignition amplifier
4: suppressor

I purchased my ignition amplifier from euro carparts

suppressor from this chap off ebay:

eBay item number:

201483983129

Thanks for that. Ordered the suppressor but eurocarparts don't seem to have the amplifier. I have found a really weird thing with the car in that it idles, just and pretty roughly if I put the accelerator to the floor. I mean as far as it will go. As soon as I come off a bit, she dies. Not sure if it's the same issue as you now!

If your car has a healthy spark but will not start the problem will not have been the ignition amplifier.
