Default What sort of money being realistic.

I'm absolutely in a pickle ..I'll have 19k burning in my pocket in December. . From my divorce and I keep looking at rs turbos ..2wd sapphire cosworths and even escort cosworths ..but jesus I can bring myself to pay 14k for a saph like most half decent ones are on ebay ...are these people real or chances ..

I'm wanting something as just a as and when toy ..

They must be dreamers jumping on the band wagon them white ones on eBay have been there for ever now. But it is a sellers market as they just don't come up for sale that often in 2wd these days

The problem I've got is there's people asking 10k plus for shit boxers on the strength of these 14k low mileage 2wd cosworths ..The 4x4 brigade are the same ::

So what are the realistic prices for say your average condition

Rs turbo
2wd sapphire cosworth
Escort cosworth ..as I'd like to think with 19k id get a half decent escort cosworth or a 2wd cosworth with some change .

Unfortunately Matt that's the way things are goin mine will be 530 ish soon and I'd want more than 14k for it not that I'm goin to sell
Most of the saphs that are with deAlers are chancers but still a nice useable stg3 is still 8k plus
I'm also in the same boat as I'm looking for a fiesta turbo but again there getting very expensive

Escort does nothing for me, I've owned everything else bar that even the 500 I just think the rwd sapph is the best of the bunch, probably the rarest too soon.
Wouldn't part with mine for £14k and its only half built.

I'd look at picking up a 2wd for around 7-8 then put the other 6-7 into rebuild and restore then you have it mint at your own good spec for that 14 and if you decided to spend more for a higher spec you'd have a solid base as you know what's been done as you could pay that 14k then require a rebuild then you'd be closer to 20

I'm blue through an through but if it were me and I had that wedge id be looking at a bad boy Audi of the RS variant, monsters amount of motor for the doe and with some change you could fettle the power up quite nicely!!
If its gotta be a ford rs I'd sit on the cash till I'd moved then go hunting...

Or why not go window shopping for everything you want in that price bracket an see where ya end up once the January bargains start turning up...

I think if you are looking for a 2wd saff it will be a waiting game for the right one. But worth holding if it's what your after because rushing into to something else will just piss you off if one dose turn up lol

The prices are scary aren't they I'm seeing pure and utter shite on eBay now advertised for a lot of money now.

I'd go for a 2wd saff but then again I'm biased lol

Mat,
Nice to see you wanting a Cossie again.
19K should still get a reasonable 3 Door, 12K a great Sapphire.
Escos just out of that price range I would think at the moment, but you never know

I've never even been in an escos but I can vouch for the 2wd saph being great fun. I've had mine out all weekend and loved every minute of it!

I think you'll struggle to find an escos for under £20k looking at the asking prices for most ads these days.

I for one would never pay more for a escos over a 3 door cossie .although the 2wd saff tops them as a alrounder

I was in the same position recently after selling my mk2 focus rs.
Wanted a sapphire and looked around on various sites at 2wd and 4x4,also glanced at 3 doors and what I think is the cars you could justify buying are not worth buying and the cars you wouldn't buy due to price are the cars you would want to buy.
I'd imagine a £30'000 3 door will still be a bit crusty here and there, the interior will be a bit worn,it won't be perfect but if it was £20'000 you could live with it.
The Saphs I looked at ranged from a rotten 5k spares car that did actually sell to the 1 I bought for 15k and everything in between, upon enquiring about all the cars that I was interested in I was always told they had sold,I didn't enquire about rubbish, just the nice cars.
A dealer had a nice white 80'000 mile white 2wd saph, standard bar exhaust, cloth interior,re sprayed and he was asking £14'000,I contacted him and he replied saying it was sold, that pushed me to buy the 1 I bought which I have since stripped to redo a lot of the work previously done and do things to my standard and make the car more true to what it is.
I sold a lot of parts off it making it owe me less but I daren't add up what I have spent but at a guess it's prob 4-6k and I'm not done yet.
It is getting harder to get a nice saph, they are rare and were once just bought for their running gear, something 3 doors, escorts didn't get hit too hard from.
I'm on my 5th saph now and I won't be selling this 1,my 1st mallard green saph cost 5k iirc,my 2nd was 2500,3rd crystal blue was 3500 and I bought a 4x4 to break for 2400,wish I had kept them all!

i know you are asking after a fast ford mat but the sudden over inflated prices are what put me off. i was looking for a really nice, semi decent spec sapphire and they were about 40 % more than they were only a few months ago on a like for like basis. there was a stage 3 saff on here for 6k ish earlier this year, i didnt see a single one for under 10k when i looked last month. ok i didnt look long and hard because i wasnt exclusively looking for a cossie but that king of pricing is ridiculous. i ended up getting a skyline and paid good money for one but the reason i opted for one aside from liking them was i was oblivious to the prices and just accepted the going rate. ignorance is bliss sometimes. i would love a cossie but good ones that come up for sale are thin on the ground. a lot of the ones advertised for strong money (10-12k) would have been 5k not that long ago.

I've got a 4x4 saph but I always wanted the 2wd after driving one. The escorts I've driven handle nice and feel a lot more modern than the saph and get a lot of attention but don't seem to have the same power delivery as the saphs. I bought mine as I only had £4K at the time and got mine for £3750 in the end about 8 or 9 years ago

Exactly that mate. I'm sure I saw somewhere that a white 2wd with about 40k on it sold for just over £25k at auction. As much as people don't want to admit it the cars are only going up in value due to them getting few and far between compared to the days we all remember buying them for £3k etc.
It might seem like people are dreaming but if you want one and that's the price then what choice is there? Especially if everyone is following suit.

Then how can you dismiss the 2wd. Think Escort as Miss Daisy & 2wd saff as Superman & you will get why its the best Cossie to drive. If you prefer to look at a car & not drive it hard then a Miss Daisy may be for you.

That sums up why sapphires aint cheep anymore, the numbers left are low, and they are still the cheepest price entry in to cosy ownership.

Im sure I said on another thread, you only have to go to a ford show, and see the amount of cosy lumps in non cosy's to see where probably 90% of sapphires went

I was after a nice 2wd but came down to condition, and settled for a tidy 4x4 instead.

On that note, nice spec'd 4x4 just popped up in for sale section...

If i was spending 19k on a rear wheel drive car it would have to be a E92 M3. 420bhp and as much fun as you like. Insane noise with performance to go with it. Probably have a good few k left as well.

Your talking totally different cars. Yes the m3 is nice but your watch that go down in valve and the cosworth sit or go up. Plus that m3 will be plain boring against a rwd cosworth with 400 or more bhp

If i was selling my 4x4 it'd be up for at least £15K.

I prefer the 2wd gearshift to the 4x4's but found both cars to drive quite similarly. I picked a 4x4 as I'd kill myself in a 2wd
