Selling a motor
Am selling my daily, always use Autotrader and never bother with anything else, what do you guys use to buy and sell 'normal' cars?
Is it worth using gumtree, eBay etc or will I just get a load of messers, which is what I am assuming?

I find gumtree does attract a lot of chancers and I'd only really use eBay if it was something a bit different. Pistonheads has worked for me in the past and it is free for me to list as I've had an account for many years. Autotrader is my preferred site.

I have sold cars through E-bay and Autotrader in the last year and with both I had scammers and time wasters. I think these days you will be lucky whoever you go with to get a straightforward sale. Its pot luck. Best of luck!

Its a tough one.
i had my A3 TDI sport quattro on autotrader for 3 weeks, it was one of the cheapest ones on there that didnt have 200k miles on it.
i had 2 phone calls, one total bellend who offered me a grand less than it was on for, and one guy that never turned up.
gumtree just had scam messages and phonecalls from indian call centres about accidents i never had
put it on ebay as a classified ad - nothing.
so was offered £850 trade in from the garage where i bought the new car from, got home that afternoon and put it on ebay on a 3 day auction, £1000 start and no reserve.
it sold for £1800 and was collected the same night (i said it needed to be gone asap as was going on holiday)
i lost a fuck load of cash on that car

Selling a motor
I used to buy and sell cars on the side, only old bangers though really. I used to buy them dirt cheap off gumtree and then sell them on a classified listing on eBay. Cost £14.99 for 28 days and although u get a few idiots as long as u don't put your email address in the advert u shouldn't get any scammers through it. Worked for me

Gumtree is rubbish and just full of scammers, and tramps that want what your selling for less than half the price.
Id stick it up on facebook mate, i know that place is frowned upon by mANY, but its well worth a go.
So many cars for sale groups now with thousands of members... yeah you'll still get the odd wanker here and there.... but easier for messaging details, rather than emailing and waiting for replies

Well I only ever window shop (for now) but the 2 I use most often are ebay and pistonheads. Wouldn't want to try selling on ebay myself as I think there are too many timewasters out there, for selling I'd use pistonheads and auto trader. Also worth considering facebook, there are loads of second hand for sale type pages on there, bound to be something in your area.

there are also places like SWAPZ and Pre-loved, but they're not as popular as the likes of gumtree or eBay.
Plus i think it costs £10 to sell a car on ebay, and then you've got the 34 timewasters and the 18 people who message you asking questions that are already answered in the main advert....and the select brain-dead few who will offer you half of your asking price when it clearly says OR NEAREST OFFER... expecting you to knock eg: £400 off a £1000 car with the old chestnut - ''its gonna cost me fuel to get there''.
Well, no sh!t sherlock lol ... Unless you can fly, it costs money to get anywhere!
Selling cars + parts has become a pain in the **** these days. Everyone wants something for nothing!

The thing is, there are time wasters, chancers and bellend using all the sites. You've just got to pick one that works for the type of vehicle you're selling. For instance, I wouldn't bother with a supercar on gumtree and I doubt anyone would travel the length of the country for a £500 Astra so best to make that one a local listing. Oh and fingers crossed you don't get dicked about.

I have always used eBay. 15 quid for a classified ad for 28 days. I think I've only had to once renew it out of about 10 cars. When I looked at autotrader it was double the price of eBay. Yes you do get time wasters on eBay but you get a huge audience and I just ignore them.

I don't think it matters where you sell as all of them have their fare share of clowns.
it was gumtree I found a locallish merc A210 .spoke to the guy, viewed , bought no problem . on the other sites they were all down south and wanks that don't bother replying to questions.

I use pistonheads (as I get it for free) and autotrader on the three week advert. Normally find the first week is a waste then the second week I get a genuine call and a buyer.
I tend to buy own and so sell well spec'd well cared for cars so once a buyer arrives if they are genuine they wont be walking away.
Key is making sure the car looks amazing in the advert and nothing in the advert is negative ie dirty, badly parked, personal belongings, badly written advert of one full of waffle or lazy and using AUtotraders auto fill that puts all the spec in the wrong order - the sort after or best bits come first in an advert to draw them in.
