Default Focus ST170 values/worth buying

Have seen a Focus ST170 for sale locally, wondering if worth having a look with a view to run about for a few months then probably sell on.

Car is 5 door, black, 2003, 102k miles, years MOT. Looks fine from the photos. Only fault being one of the rear electric windows doesn't work.

Is up for £795 ono

I know the cars aren't great on fuel/performance but do have some appeal still and are good drivers. Is it worth a punt?

prices are all over the place on these as long as it runs right and has a good clutch its worth a pop, but any clutch issues or eml lights etc use caution or walk away

Yeah that was kinda my view. Seems cheap if i can get it for say £700 but they don't seem that desirable at the moment due to running costs etc so not sure I could see myself able to sell it on for much more

If its all good, buy it, reckon you'd make your money back on it if you were to sell on or break.

I just bought a grey 3 door, 2 owners, stacks of history, custom made exhaust £700. Only downside is its 145k.

Great driver, handles lovely. Bought as abit of a toy but cant get the missus out of it now. Not as bad on fuel as people say for me, its a 2.0 16v don't expect great mpg.

I've always wandered how good the gear shift would feel like on these seen as they have a getrag box, I guess it's nice and tight/notchy like a mk1 rs/2wd saff?

Weird but I'm fixated on good feeling gearboxes lol

great gearbox tbh, close ratio with precise gear selection actions, one of the best bits on these cars

As above prices are inconsistent. I've seen them up for over 2k and as low as a few hundred. If you have the ability to do work yourself it's got to be worth a punt but they're into the realms of expensive work. We spent over 1k on ours. When we sold it it needed a new rack long term, belt was due, eml was on etc... Got £550 it after sitting for a year.
Even at diy money it's a gamble IMHO. Quite a lot of specific parts.

Gearbox was the best part of the car. A bit notchy when cold if anything.
