Default Audi RS4 - B7

Anyone got/been in one of these?
What's your opinion on them...

Looking at them as a possible option as my next motor!

i can safely say having driven 1 "properly " while taking it to my shed 6 miles away for a detail from a dealer wouldnt have to think twice if i was in a position to buy maintain and run then i would buy 1 in a heartbeat.

Also had a v8 R8 the same run but thats another story altogether but my god

I'm not saying this as a fact as I don't know...
People do say they are about the same as a cosworth in terms of cost to maintain?

How much is a set of discs for a RS4. Fronts for are cossie are 60/70 quid. Rears about 50 quid.

you can get a full koni suspension kit for a cossie for about 500/600 quid. I think a shocker for a RS4 are alot more than 700 quid.

Great cars, I was lucky enough to had full use of both saloon and avant over a few years only downside is theft or seat stealing, experienced both. Many are written off if the seats are stolen as they are silly money to replace and only come in individual pieces. Engines can coke up if driven too gently all the time so test drive a few. Service items weren't to bad if you shop around or upgrade.

Many of the v8s are well down on power as the direct injections really coke up, some as much as 100bhp. Many have been cleaned by dealers but will eventually coke again. They need to be driven hard to stop if occurring (possible solution) but it will not cure it if already coked. Best to get it checked by a dealer or someone with a video scope. Poor cleaning can cause engine failure if the deposit is allowed to drop in the cylinders.

Walnut blasting seems to be the way to clean them, terra clean will not do it. Hope this helps

I too like these, Where do they coke up?
In the cylinder head ports?
Or the inlet manifolds?

I had one a year or so ago, awesome car!

Expensive to run and also to maintain but no more than a cossie or high powered RS really.

Interior is a lovely place to be, lots of nails out there though so look at lots and buy 1!

Lots of stories about coking, expensive brake discs etc etc but do your homework and if you're handy with a spanner can do a lot of the work yourself on these.

A rs4 Disc glen is Ł364 EACH . but I don't really get your point????

Ive changed the front pads Ł111 and Ł30 to fit .

If a cosworth had 414- 420 bhp you wouldn't be running the standard discs on it unless you was mad so you cant compare , standard cosworth brakes are shit. simple

A decent upgrade on a cosworth is around Ł1600-2000 without changing the wheels so they fit . A full coilover kit for a RS4 is Ł1100 and standard shocks can be had for Ł220 .

I still own mine and it has developed a knock from the front drivers side so i've booked it into Audi next Tuesday and they will spend 2 hours checking bushes and the DRC for free . I will then powerflex bush the arms etc after .

Ive had mine since September and there worlds apart . A RS4 will stamp over most cosworths (and yes I still like them) But real world there a better car simple as that .

There no more to run than a tuned cosworth , I get 260 miles to Ł70 and that's with some fun driving too .

All you have to watch out for is ,at around 100 mph it feels like 40 mph . so so easy to hit 155 also . I did 155 on a track day and it felt so safe it was untrue .

3 door sold Ł14000

Ł189 fc to insure

Audi Rs4 Ł13800 (I was very lucky)

Ł360 FC WITH 0 NCB as had classics for the last 15 years .

And just to add so I don't sound like a hater

I owned my 3 door for 10 years , one of the best cars ive had and many have come and gone while owning it .

I hit 32 had a little boy and since then the Cosworth took a back seat . I got to the point where I was fed up with it just sitting in the garage looking good . not taking it out and leaving it anywhere ,not taking it out in the wet etc etc and please don't tell me doing that it will increase in value as truth is, they go wrong more when standing. And if I gave you 14k cash you wouldn't just leave it on the kitchen table to look good .

The RS4 TICKS all the boxes . Bloody fast (when on my own)
Sat nav /tv
Heated front and rear seats all round
Electric seats
6 disc changer with 2 SD card slots .
Air con
Cruise control
Adaptive headlights (These are great)
S mode ,which changes the steering , throttle feel and opens 2 more exhaust valves for a louder thump.
19 inch wheels , Huge 6 pot brembo's

No Rust

414 bhp 0-60 in 4.4 seconds for under 14k .

Yea but those kind of cars are usually bought on finance and I'm not down with that. I have 3 vehicles, all old(ish) and all purchased outright which being self employed helps me sleep at night as opposed to worrying about the monthly repayments.

I'd love an RS4, but I don't fancy the Ł500 tax or the insurance! My Lexus with it's paltry 153bhp and 9.5 second 0-60 is still Ł500-odd to insure, so don't think an RS4 is on the cards for me

Thankfully I have a traders policy so all my cars are covered under that. My mrs has a separate policy for our scooby (which is our daily) but she only pays Ł250 (and she is only 26)

I know what you mean about the tax, we have 3 vehicles and it all adds up...

If I was looking for a fast family style car it would be between a RS4 or C63 AMG both cars just do everything so well. The RS4 would maybe be the safer bet for our wet weather.

I have the B6 S4, I've had it for a year and I absolutely love it. There are a few issues with the RS4 V8, it needs the inlets cleaning as they gum up due to the exhaust recycling system (FSI) they have for the emissions, but I'd have one in a heartbeat.

Here's Mine .;.....

Mine has a rebuilt top end with just over 5k since it's rebuild and was then fitted with numerous JHMotorsports (US Company) items including a level 2 map, taking into account the modified inlet manifold, decat and full milltek system. Sounds absolutely awesome. Also had all the suspension done, and it handles unbelievably. It had been in storage in a fully heated garage for two years after the timing chains started rattling which is a know issue on the S4 V8 and costs about 3k to fully replace the items that cause this issue with upgraded items. I bought it in this condition as the car was mint and did the work needed to get it back to 100% perfection.
