compression testers v leak testers - to determine if i have worn piston rings?
hi guys, ive got a standard compression tester for my golf vr6, now obviously this wont determine if its a worn cylinder head or bottom end as the car is a bit smokey (blue - oil)
with a compression tester i will do the test first when the engine is warm, then add a bit of oil to the cylinder again, if it rises a lot i believe thats the case for a worn piston ring? how much oil in ML do i need to add?
or has anyone got a leak tester local to bromley in kent who wants to pop over and earn some ££

piston 2 increased a lot first of all (258 psi) as i put way too much oil in there (2 tablespoons roughly - oops) so i burnt that oil off and started again with just under a tablespoon in each cylinder!
she is still kicking out a fair bit of blue smoke on idle when i start it from cold, and it will kick out blue smoke till the fans kick in, drive it and leave it on idle when warm and you cant see a lot of blue smoke! random!
piston 1 - spark wet with oil - dry test 188, wet test 203
piston 2 - mildly moist spark - dry test 188, wet test 203
piston 3 - moist spark - dry test 180, wet test 200
piston 4 - moist spark - dry test 179, wet test 208
piston 5 - moist spark - dry test 170, wet test 195
piston 6 - moist spark - dry test 180, wet test 198
