any way of testing brake fluid in car if its DOT5 or 5.1?

Default any way of testing brake fluid in car if its DOT5 or 5.1?

i need to top up my brake fluid. but im not sure if its DOT5 or DOT 5.1 anyone know how i can find out what it is in there so i dont mix them up as a heard you cant do that with them.

If it's a Ford then it shouldn't be Dot 5 as that is the odd one out as it is silicone based and will eat the rubber bits of your system. It's likely to be Dot 4, super Dot 4 or Dot 5.1, all of which can be mixed. I think Dot 5 is normally dyed purple as against the straw colour of Dot 3, 4 & 5.1.

cheers mate i thought there would be a colour difference which ive just googled and there is.
