Default Anyone seen any multi plate clutch alignment tooling?

I have a triple plate that all three plates need to be aligned together to get the box on.

When I was running ford splines I have a dummy input shaft I used, now I am using Nissan splines I have no way of accurately aligning the plates.

Is there a tool made that is universal to multi-plates?

Almost all American clutches come with a plastic alignment tool.

Or best option is an old input shaft.

Go onto some of the Skyline forums and ask. Someone somewhere will have the plastic tool

Or some of the Skyline guys in the UK are bound to have them knocking about from clutches they have fitted.
Or maybe broken gearboxes.

eg

NZ seller selling most for around $8 each

http://www.fortyone.co.nz/parts/show...nt%20Tool.html

Other places may not list them, but they are available.

Yeah I guess being a muti plate clutch it will need the splines lol
But if they have a milling machine as well and are any good with it then that's another story

Searching their site, most Skyline and Nissan clutches use the AT01

Cheers Stevie,

Ive not bought one yet, but I have just sent them an email to confirm application.

I am good on the lathe, but I don't thing I could cut splines that easily on my Colchester lol
I also have access to a nice turret head Bridgeport and to cut splines like that would take some time lol - possible, but serious time manually.

Cheers

Not saying it would be easy just beats being stuck if you need one and can't get one or have to wait ages

I agree, and I had thought about milling only so many of the splines to make it easier.

I made one
It is easy . Turn material to fit in through the plates
Then run a mig welder up it , then just machine the weld on a mill or lathe to leave a key .
( if you do it on a lathe , put a milling cutter in the chuck and your job in the tool post )

Welding seems a long way round, why not just machine the depth needed?

and job in the tool post lol, I suppose so, though you would not get an accurate division of splines, I would just rather use the dividing head in the miller.

You only need one long spline to line up the plates as the diameter diameter of the bar wil do the rest

This works well as I done this years ago on my clutch plates and all went together first time

As for using the tool post to hold the job this is a old school way which works if you have not got a mill
