Default NIP for 31MPH in 30MPH zone?!

Is this possible? I was driving to a hotel in Cardiff last night along the North Road and someone in the group of cars around me got flashed, I was the lead car and I think it was me as they were flowing me.
However, I had the TomTom on and it indicated 29MPH and the speedo was a touch above 30MPH as I was going off the TomTom speed, but I mean 31-32 at a push.
I always thought the allowence was speed limit, plus 10%, plus 2 MPH meaning 35MPH?
I'll be proper pissed off to get an NIP for 31MPH as I do 25k a year and have had a clean licence 8 years!

All forces operate a 10% +2mph but this is not law. In theory yes you could get a NIP for 31 but the police liek anybody play the politics game and know full well that if they operated a Zero Tollerance approach the dwindling public support they have would vanish.

If you were genuinely doing 31 mph I wouldn't worry about it

Most cars speedos read over what you are actually doing so even at 32mph showing your actual speed is almost certainly only going to be 30mph. It would be well harsh if you get done for exceeding 30mph!!

The fact that TomTom says 29MPH you will be fine,.

Something to point out though Gatso cameras can be triggered by oncoming traffic so if someone was doing over the limit on the other side of the road it can also trigger the camera flash so it might not have been you! quite common actually as the camera cant work out direction.

That sounds very harsh! No idea whether they'll go through with getting you done for it, I knew someone who got done for doing 43 in a 40, so he took his documents to the police and they just told him to be careful in future and left it there.

I dont see any way in hell their equipment can be considered accurate enough to nail someone for such a small margin.

I'd have cut the camera down.

Well, if someone had told me that they got done for 31 in a 30 I would say bollocks. However, there was no one coming the other way and the flash definitely came from behind. Two, quick, bright-white flashes in rapid succession. Definitely not headlights. The cars behind me couldn't have been speeding as I was in front of them and I wasn't yet clear of the lines, so it had to be me. I guess I'll have to wait out and see what happens. I'll defiantly contest it if comes back as 31 in a 30. There can be no way that their equipment is accurate enough to register 1 MPH, surely!

Probably just a faulty camera...cut it down anyway just in case.

The cameras do go off incorrectly. The lines on the road are distanced apart that correlates with a set time between camera shots. The camera will give a reading and this is then supported by a person checking how many lines you've travelled over. I would be mor ethan gobsmacked if you hear from it.

I spent a while sharing an office with a representitive of our local scamera partnership, had several conversations on the subject.

People like that are dirty lowlife scumbags. They're assisting with the extortion of money from people doing no harm, and worse than that, they're doing it under the false pretence of trying to improve road safety.

Me calling them scumbags is actually being very kind to them. I think a hell of a lot worse of them.

Not only should cameras be cut down....they should then be used to beat such people with

I was driving a wagon so it was a 60 limit, 40 for trucks. Going down hill and fully loaded so got up to 45 while trying not to fry the brakes.

Looking back I should of appealed but hey ho. They're spent now.

I presume you mean that specific individual??

I imagine many people working for camera partnerships are just doing a job, and i have no problem with them catching dangerous speeders and real criminals.

However 31 in a 30 isnt a crime IMO. well technically it is, but its not exactly murder albeit the scamera partnerships treat it as such.

I do think there needs to be an independant review on camera locations, many are blatently revenue earning sites and have nothing to do with real road safety.

Nope, I dont mean the specific individual, as Ive no idea who they are. I mean anyone involved with the extortion of money from motorists or people who have done no harm whatsoever are dirty scumbags. There is simply no other way to describe them in my opinion.
And they get even worse when it is under false pretences like with these cameras.

Using the excuse they are just doing a job doesnt make them or the job any less immoral and disgusting. Nazi soldiers stealing houses, property, belongings etc from people and then putting them in concentration camps was just doing their job too.

Didnt make what they did right.

Just because somehow a government or people in power have semi brainwashed people into thinking their rules are for our benefit, or attempted to normalise disgusting things....still doesnt make them all right.

And extortion as what happens with these cameras, is just plain wrong.

I got caught by hand held camera few years back at 37 in a 30 ( was late picking my daughter up) which is fair enough, but when I changed my address on my licence my new one came back with 4 points and a £350 fine on it??
Never did pay the £350 and wondered where they got that fine from?? And 4 points???
They make it up as they go along twats!

did a speeding awareness course a few months ago and sure a couple on there had been done for similar - if you've no points may well get the course, which in all fairness was pretty intersting and has made me change my ways. I'd be pretty unhappy too at being pinged for 31 though tbh!

When I was at a speed awareness course, they was 2 blokes there that had been clocked doing 31mph.
I don't know what was done afterwards, but the lad hosting the course kept them back because they shouldn't have been there?

Go and state your case, with some photos showing where it was and admit absolute responsibility and blame it on an error of judgement. If your lucky you will have a magistrates bench that aren't a bunch of lobotomised transvestites and you'll do ok. I would expect between 3 and 6 points and a fine of £200-£300 plus the standard costs and victim surcharge (WTF?!?).

Ill warn you now my cousin on bale for causing death by dangerous driving by beening 1mph over the speed limt! He thought he was only doing 30mph but police say he was doing 31mph (some how) and some dull kidd ran out in front of him and there wasn't enough room to stop and killed him.
which the fucking! Police was asking him about his aftermarket wheels asking if thay made the car faster ect! And he drives like an old granny!

Quick Reply: NIP for 31MPH in 30MPH zone?!
