Was the mk3 Orion ever called an Orion? I thought they were all escort saloons to add to sales figures at the end of escort production, I know that's the case with the late ones. Sound like a bit of an Orion nerd here!!!

The 1600e didnt come along till 1989, i was on about the mk1 orion abc reg ones, the ones that shared the same engine as a xr3i but came in a lot cheaper to insure.

Here it is only two i have unfortunalty. Apparntly it onnly reason with it didnt have RS2K interior is because it wouldnt fit, Ie number of doors and shape of rear seats.

My Mum had one just like the one pictured above in the same colour, same kit, alloys etc but I'm sure it was a 1.6 Ghia?
Had front and rear electric windows and a sunroof from what I can remember.

They did not make an RS Orion, but there was a TurboTechnics kit available for the early MFi-equipped ones.
Dees of Sidcup, that my father used to run, was going to be an authorised dealer for Turbo Technics before Bristol Street Motors in Bromley were granted status and one of the demo cars was an Orion Ghia 1.6i on a B-reg. It had the optional RS accessory kit fitted as well.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
IIRC the Ghia Si was 1800 in either 105(or115)ps or the 130. Later ones came with the 2k stuff such as the 5 spokes and deeper bumper with the foggies in. 130's came with rear discs too. I had an early 130 without the 2k bumper, i loved it and it went well enough. I didn't get chance to get it how i wanted as it went bang after 6 weeks of owning it!
I think the mk2 orions with the rs kit on look shite personally.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Mate of mine used to own a B reg blue orion ghia.
RST engine, RST recaros, sapphire boot spoiler, cut down sapphire front bumper.
Last time saw it the car was dragged from a garage it had been in for 10 years, rust had taken hold

A guy who works in a local breakers to me had a mk4 orion 1.6i ghia from new as an h plate efi model.
He said that it was one of a small number of `RS`model late spec orions.it was bahama blue, had the 1600e leather, full rs skirt kit with rs turbo bonnet and series 2 wheels.
I remember it vividly as he had it years then sold it on,not sure if he was telling me the truth but i never seen another like it.

There was never an RS Orion. It was aimed at the mini exec market so it was never intended to be out-and-out sporting.
Top spec in the MK1 was 1.6i Ghia, which was carried on for the MK2. There was a 1600E in 1989 which had the same mechanicals but leather and wood inside.
For the MK3, they released the Ghia SI, which was similar to the Escort XR3i, being available in 105PS spec with drums and standard box, and then in 130PS spec which had the hotter cams and things, with rear disks and an MTX75 box. For the 1993/4 facelift the 130PS model was dropped, but the SI got an RS2000 front bumper/headlights, with the wheels that were later fitted to the MK6 RS2000. It was also at this time that the Orion name was dropped and they all became Escort saloons.
Then in 1995, the MK6 Escort came along, and the top spec was Ghia X until the saloon was dropped in 1998.
MK1, 2 and 3 models could be specified with an optional RS body kit, but there was never offically an RS model, just the Ghia I or Ghia Si.
I'll take my geek hat off now

Had a root around earlier.
Found the old service history book here, also a service history book for the second XR2i they had Which is annoying as they kept NO service history for my Focus what so ever. Yet theres tonnes of the stuff from cars they owned 10+ years ago?
It was a 1992 Ford Orion Ghia Si in Polaris Grey and it was a 1.8 too

Right then,
was in one of my centres today waiting for a punter to turn up, found some 1992/3 perf ford mags and in the news section was a story about the development of the "RS2000" orion mk3/mk5 escort shape, this had everything RS2000 inc engine! car/cars were built at ford SVA at Dunton, will fetch the mag home next time im in there, didnt get a chance to read it all.
