Default Removing a seized injector

Found that number 4 injector on my 06 reg vivaro is fooked & as on all common rail diesels its seized in the head!!

I removed injectors 1,2 & 3 no problem but number 4 is solid!

I've undone the clamp & soaked it in wd40 with the intention of using it until it decides to pop out itself but wondered if theres anything else I can use to help free it up?

I've heard of coke, oven cleaner etc but there's surely has to be something on the market that's stronger & more effective in situations like this??

I spoke to my mechanic & various engineers who said if it runs & drives ok, soak it up, undo the clamp & use it til it pops out!

My mate said he drove he's for a week then all of a sudden on his way home it came out!! Had the new one to hand which he fitted & off he went...... Hope I'm that lucky but not gonna hold my breath!

get grafitti x from wurth and keep soaking it around the injector...it dissolves the carbon eventually . if you have access to a hot power washer you can most of the time dislodge the carbon. its been leaking slightly at the seal and just builds up. make sure you get the copper washer out at the seat if there is one and use a new one with new injector.
if that fails a lot of diesel places now have hydraulic pullers just for this job. Good luck.

The best thing for these believe it or not is cillit bang. I work for Vauxhall and the technical team recommend that to us. If no joy, all Vauxhall dealers now have a specially developed puller to remove them.

water pump pliers and a prybar is usually my weapons of choice! or like mentioned above wurth and forte both have products now for dissolving the carbon build up and freeing the injector

Didnt think it was a build up of soot? thought it was water leaking onto injector, causing the two different metals to fuse together

Either way a nightmare to sort

A friend has the misfortune of having to work at one of these recently. He tried a couple of slide hammer tools, WD40, all sorts of other products, oven cleaner etc over weeks.

Renault themselves actually sell a tool specially for removing injectors. Downside is that it costs about £800. It does however work.
Your local dealer may rent you the tool.

Ive just spoken to a specialist in knockholt who said he can do it Monday for £175 but really needed it done sooner.

I watched a guy try to remove 1 by welding a chain to it and Hiab it out (well at least tried to).... He was lifting the van up by the injector with the Hiab and tried jarring it out, eventually he gave up and took the head off.

Spoke to a few people advertising on eBay & the prices ranged from £364 up to £450!!

Personally I think that's a rip off when I could pull the head off myself & get to it from the other side.... Would cost me half that!

Best get the spanners warned up!

If it's properly seized, then the only thing that will remove it is the correct tool, or destructive means.

The correct tool will be cheaper.

You could buy the tool from Renault then rent it out yourself lol

No for the tool but that can't be right....probably for the adaptor that goes on the end!!!

Found a specialist in Norfolk who's coming down tomorrow for £175.

Get them to order it up !!

Even a basic slide hammer tool will be more than that, or around that. But the proper tool bolts to the head and uses a screw puller to remove the injector. And even then it can take a fair bit of effort.

Two things can happen. Either the injector comes out, or it rips the injector in half.

Nightmare to get out these injectors we have the special tools for them at work been a vaux dealer and have broken 3 of them in the past, we normally now find it cheaper and easier to whip the head off send it to engineers down the road.done quite a few this way now and found it much better.

They dont seize in the expand in to the head. The only way I have had to get these out is to have the head machined. You may need to be prepared to buy a new head.

And they do seize. The design of the vans is shitty, and all water etc from rain can lie on top of the head which leads to corrosion and seizing.

The same engine is used in other vehicles, and they dont suffer anywhere near as badly. It's just bad design of the vehicle they are installed in

but they are French, so you wouldnt expect anything other than bad design !
