Default escort cosworth rally car

hi
does any one have any photos or info on an escort cosworth grpa car reg number L20 MTD. i am currantly restoring one at the mo, i have had the car bare mettled and found the original chassi number-the cars believed to be ex works. any info wud be great thanks.

L20MTD wasn't ex works Boreham,it was MTD Mike Taylor Developments who did build at some point cars for drivers with Ford backing.
they built some very well known cars though and L20MTD was a white group a version in lhd.

i do have pics of it and iirc its Jim Harrison driving it on the Irish Tarmac Championship and a couple of other pics.
do you own L20 ?? i dunno if this is the same Mike Taylor who did world championship rallying and the british championship too.

hi there,thanks for info, my friend currently owns the car,(driver) i co-drive for him and look after the car. wud the shell be supplied by boreham? the front screen apeture has been cut back for rubber fit screen and the panels are a thinner gauge steel? wud it be possible for you to send me sum pics,

mike taylor developments closed down about 9/10 years ago I was at the auction when all his bits went, got some good bargains that day!

mike went to live in france and set up an equstrian centre there

mtd were no different from mlp or red they all got stuff from boreham and built up cars into rally winners. you probably would find they did use stuff from salvaged cars as loads of them did back then as there was mint parts about on damaged cars.
i know a couple of lads who sometimes worked on mtd cars.
my mate had some very sexy mike taylor developments motordrive kevlar rally seats he bought of adrian farrell who owned welsh area rally spares. they were 800 quids worth new and came out of a works spec 3dr rally car,MTD used Motordrive seats with MTD written in the headrests, if your restoring the car please contact Alan Whitikar as he can tell you more about MTD and sell you the correct seats the would of used when new.

cheers karl,that wud be great. we found that the car was built in 1993 and regeesterd abroad, then regesterd in the uk in 1994 with L20 MTD. Do you know when the photos were taken-year?

kurt rallied K748G00 which was a proper ex works car before L20MTD.

i should point out that in 1996 Kurt Gottlicher driving the Mike Taylor Developments Excalibur Group a Escort Cosworth came runner up in the European Championship.

(Ford Escort RS Cosworth): 2nd Overall

so there you go its a very well known car and if it doesn't go back to half red and white your not doing the car and its history and pedigree justice.
that is unless your still going to rally it and all that stuff goes out the window.

cozzfather-your legend, we bought the car as a rolling shell with an wrc engine and full wide track.came with light weight loom etc. now the bad bit!!!!! the car has been converted to rhd very poorly ive fitted a complete new bulkhead and replaced the front cage.sum one had fitted an ffd sequensal and hacked the transmission tunnel.over the years the floors have corroions and has nasty repairs-out with old and in with new. while doing this we found the chassi number in the floor relating to L20++. we bought the car onreg no- cdz 137 mike reed who did alot of btrda. he wrote off his escort and shelled it into L20. we got the car of a rally breakers which he bought the car for 28000 then sold off the ffd box front and rear diffs + dampers. my mate bought the rest.

i'd fuck the irish plate off as thats not worth putting on such a well proven car as yours.

Here is my photo of L20 MTD

Cracow Rally (Rajd Krakowski 1995), Pawel Przybylski - Krzysztof Geborys.

I have more photos of this car during its numerous appereances in Poland in 1990s - I will try to scan some of them, but... I have about a 1000 negatives to scan and it takes ages...

AFAIR this car after Kurt did a season or two in Polish Rally Championship.
The above is Pawel Przybylski, Rafineria Czechowice livery.
Also Krzysztof Holowczyc drove this car at last once, in Stomil Olsztyn livery.
Then after Przybylski's money were over, this car was rent by Adam Magaczewski.
Contrary to Przybylski and Holowczyc, Magaczewski was not a driver... Enough to say that I remember one rally (Wisla 1995) when on wet Magaczewski was at the end of top ten... I met poor Mike Taylor there, he looked he wanted to leave immediately... On wet this A-group car was beaten by gp. N Escort Cosworth of Cezary Fuchs.

looks like its RHD to me now Grzegorz,i have seen loads of group a cars converted from left hand drive to rhd because the driver does not like lhd.
me i wouldn't want a rhd cosworth lol.

if you need any info about the car mate let me know .i work with one of the directors of mtd in our rally department .it did close its doors 10 years ago but the name still registered as the building is rented out .

I see that you are mounting an mpc active diff system, were did you get hold of it?
i´m looking for one and they seems hard to find.

1st shell 1994 aircom livery
2nd 1995/96 przybylski/gottlicher
3rd 1996 gottlicher(manx rally car has only 1 diagnal)
4th shell current 1 owned by gorden smith.
mike talyor was a busy man lol

the shel was bought of hugh hunter bout 2001 by mike reed the car was a lhd drive red body shell he converted the car to rhd painted it white. my mate bought the car not knowing anythin bout it.we had the car shot blasted an this revealed the chassi number in the floor pan. m20 mtd is on a mercedes clk.cheers jim

the car got painted for Hugh in my mates garage Phil Jones Motorsport Bodywork in Ellesmere Port Cheshire and Gerbil helped build it up.

Phil's done bodywork on all hugh's group a cars and wrc cars and still recently stuff for R-E-D.
i remember seeing the Escort after it was shotblasted and thinking it may of been a R-E-D Snijers Shell as he painted them too,Hugh got rid of Colin McRaes/Russell Brooks's Group A R-E-D Sierra 4x4 Cosworth for that car and Phil bought the Sierra off Hugh.

was painted yellow when Hugh ran it,i had the pleasure of helping Phil graft on it and my mate Paul spent many hours straightening Hugh's offs.

anyone who thinks a group a escort run by a proffesional rally team with a huge sponsor and had only one shell doing a important championship has been sniffing glue to long.

i can't say exactly who did this but on one rally i saw a escort cosworth group a on the trailer of a rally barge and next to it was a escort cosworth road car with the same reg. some lads into rallying have some neck

just to clarify, hugh baught it in 2005.

i see the crack in the windscreen is still there also.
