Ahhhh not as badly priced as i first thought then.
Is there a 'review' site of slr cameras in this price range, so i can see what features are on each camera, what i can do with them etc...
Sorry if these questions sound dumb but, if you dont ask........
Cheers peeps

canon and Nikon are both offering £30 cashback on their budget camera's.
Need a bit more info before i add my 2p to this thread. Do yu want a camera to just take nice pictures and never really buy new lenses etc or will this be a hobby that grows?
Whats your budget?
Matt.

i also have a question for the camera people
a mate of mine has recommended the nikon d80 is this much better than the d60 or d40? as the d80 is slightly outta my budget but is it worth saving for a bit longer and get the d80, im a novice at the moment but hopefullt see it grow into a bigger hobby with some practice?
cheers rob.

there are a couple of things to consider with the D40/D40x/D60 compared to the D50/D70/D70s/D80/D90. Have a search through my previous posts as i've mentioned it a few times now.
Escortrst90, for you wanting to go further with it i would definately recommend you at least go for a D50.
please see here for reviews of any camera's you may consider, all fair and impartial apart from the Sony a900 review...

Muska, i think i can see this being a hobby that grows so lenses would be on the agenda aswell, but as for budget well im not sure really not too expensive but some quality equipment that will give good results.

Good stuff, the reason i ask is because the nikon D40/D40x/D60 all lack an internal focus motor drive which means any Nikon lens that is not AF-S will not auto focus, manual only. This will not be a problem with pro spec lenses (around £1000 and upwards) and some of the cheaper ones but great lenses like the 50mm f1.8 prime would not. Crazy really as it's a great lens and it's under £100! It would probably be the second or third lens you would buy.
With Canon you will not have this problem with the lenses, but personally i feel the build quality is better on the entry level Nikons. I'd suggest getting yourself into a jessops and having a feel & play with a Nikon and a Canon, see which you like the feel of etc.
For you i'd consider looking at the Nikon D50/D70/D80 or Canon 1000D/400D/450D. Any of these will give you room to grow into it and features you may look to wanting as you learn and progress.
I'll finish by saying that although you'll get nice pictures fro mthe kit lenses, the difference to a pro spec lens is vast. Good quality glass on a lower spec body will still produce better results than cheap lenses on a good body.
Hope thats helped a bit.
