X-Box 360 Elite / PS3 / BluRay / HD-DVD Poll................
Upon deciding getting a new 1080p screen, I now have to decide on a console (XBox 360 or PS3), and also a 1080p movie playback device.
With the PS3 I get a 1080p bluray output, if I opt for the XBOX 360 Elite, I still have to buy a HD-DVD add-on and even then it doesnt support FULL 1080p (its emulated)
Only solution, if I go with HD-DVD and PS3 is to get an external player, but after reading about the "war" just, it looks like BluRay is winning anyhow.
What are peoples thoughts?

But the HD on the Elite is 120GB instead of 20GB with the Premium, also it's sexy black. So hardly a waste of money.
I've got an Elite (Chopped in my Premium) and a PS3. I'm NEVER on the PS3 but I'm on the 360 all the time. BluRay is great on 1080i so will be superb on 1080p. Depends what you want, if it's for film quality and the odd game go for the PS3. Otherwise 360 all the way

I will be going the PS3 route for blu-ray and a standalone HD-DVD player.
By Christmas there will be a sub £200 HD player. Be good enough for me

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
If you dont play games much buy the samsung combi its out in about a month, you need both formats now as it looks like the format war is going to be going on for a while, a few studios signed up for HD-DVD exclusive just when it looked like Bluray had won and now no Transformers on Bluray

Dont waste money on a PS3 for gaming as it aint got any games yet, bought mine at launch and its never on for gaming, just the 360 thats used for that.

I did
Just a side note. Blu-rays are region coded but some USA discs will play on the UK PS3 if you want to import any.
HD DVDs are not region coded.
The DVD side of both players are still region coded as before.

As Fraz said watch this space as it looks like Blueray may struggle unless Sony can make it cheaper. Some of the big studios are now signing up for HD DVD as blueray costs too much to produce in comparison.

Of course there is the reason Paramount/Dream Works went HD exclusive, maybe to the tune of $150M?
Transformers WILL be available on BR discs as will Shrek 3 etc etc. I read something about when it gets sold to another country/continent, they can remaster the HDDVD to Bluray or whatever they want
Have a read of this post/forum, makes interesting reading

Have a read of that forum, Sunny. Have a look how popular it is compared to the official HD-DVD one, its like 'anothercarforum' to passionford
BluRay film sales are double that over HD-DVD.
If u have a PS3, you're laughing anyway
Whoever asked about buying a HD-DVD player, have a look HERE.

Cheers Stu, will check it out. It appears that the bloke who's sitting oppersite me (who hates Sony btw LOL) got his facts totally wrong regarding the Bluray and HD-DVD movies.....plonker!
I already have a 360 and I am definately not ditching it so it looks like a PS3 might also be on the cards aswell now. LOL
Better have a read of this forum and learn more.....whats the link?
Cheers,
Sunny.

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago, after reading a few reviews i went with the PS3. As i think as already been said its one of the best blu-ray players (if not the best) and its half the price of the other stand alone players. Not bad for playing games either!
IMO just needs more games but other then that i'm more then happy with it, just waiting for Manhunt 2 and the next GTA.

PS3 with a 46w is a nice set up. Also, with firmware 1.9 on the ps3 u get a built in upscaler for none 1080 media.
PS3 is a nice device - soon sony will be releasing a 'add on' for recording TV - abit like sky plus
