Default gear oil smell

Anyone running gear oil in the 4x4 notice the smell of it? Ive put mobil 1 75w90 in the box and front / rear diffs, atf in the transfer box after being recommended by others. I can smell the gear oil still when the cars sitting in the garage. Had it on the ramp and checked everywhere and cant see a single drip anywhere. no wet patches etc. im assuming that it must be just venting from the breather on top of the box in the tunnel. anyone else noticed this with theirs with gear oil in the box?

Gear oil stinks. It took a while for the smell to leave my garage after I drained the diff oil out.

Yeah i filled it at my mates garage about 3 weeks ago. only just brought the car home and its followed me might end up putting the MTF stuff back in if thats how its gonna smell. i assumed there must have been a leak somewhere , but its just had a full restoration so would be obvious if was leaking from somewhere.

That does seem odd, even if overfilled I doubt it would breath too much

filled it 18mm below filler plug just as per the manual. if it were a input shaft seal gone, it would be dripping from bell housing, but its bone dry. would be as bad if it smelled nice, but its foul
