Default Sapphire rear light problems.

Been going through all the lights on my car and having a bit of a mare with the rear lights! When the o/s indicator is switched on the fog light and rear light also flash any ideas? The earth seems ok when tested with multimeter but the rear plug has seen better days! Anyone repaired theirs? Doubt the plug is available new from ford?

Sounds like a bad earth. Multimeters can be deceiving as you can get 12v's or good continuity through 1 strand of wire. Load testing an earth with a bulb and a good known live is far better. I had to chop my plugs off and use small spade terminals.

Yeah. as soon as uv got flashing under load and weird things goin on - earth is first port of call. clean multiplug and spray with the likes of wd40. re-wire earth and try.

Sounds like mine after a winter lay up - meter didn't suggest earth but I ran a direct wire... and hey presto all the problems disappeared!

If your any good with a soldering iron the way i have fixed a friends sapphire massy tree lights at the back take the light apart if the connector is that shot, solder some flying leads directly to the pcb strip where the connector would push on cut the old connector off, then used tamiya connectors and re loom the wire, its also a good idea to run a new earth from the light pcb directly to the chassis i used a built connector for this,

the reason i replaced the lot was when going over bumps the fault would appear and disappear as the connector moved

hope that helps

Or you could see if a breaker has the connectors to cut off an old loom

That's what I did, worked ok, considering it was intended as a tempary fix! I'm guessing the replacement plug kit that ford do / did has long been no longer serviced?! Although, they were fiddly fuckers to do, at least it looked neat with the original plug...

Similar to what I've done but I doubled the earth wire up and fitted a superseal connector to it. Got another wire on the earth terminal on the loom side going to the body

Christmas lights are a ford favourite lol

Sort the earth first to see if it solves the problem before a full rewire
