I'm having problems with the gearbox when coming down the gears, specifically getting it to change down into first and second.

Anybody got any ideas?

Had a similar problem and was looking out for a replacement box until the clutch cable sniped, fitted a new one from Matt Lewis and sorted issue., cable must have been stretched and not disengaging clutch fully..

Thanks Rob, I'll take a look at the cable. It seemed to get worse when the engine was hot!

Where in Cork are you? I'm probably going back to the in laws in clonakilty this year.

In the order of difficulty I'd do this
Adjust ratchet in the pedal assembly
Clutch cable
Ratchet swap in the pedal assembly
Cradle bushes/linkage
Box

Also, if you get as far as taking the pedal box out make sure it's still straight as I've had one that had twisted and when input my foot on the pedal the twist in the pedal box was causing the cable to move without moving he clutch

Don't know on 4x4 but on 2WD (Borg Warner box) a common issue with downshifting can be down to worn "Bulk rings"

I'd check and change the oil too for all it costs.

I'd be looking at the clutch/clutch cable first. As mentioned when i had a dodgy cab;e it lead to crap chages. I also have a broken AP clutch plate that gave the smae symptoms

Thanks Paul, I've had a quick look, it seems the outer sheath of the clutch cable has melted a little due to the way it was routed. I'll go in to Woodfords and get a new one.
