Is it a tapping or clicking noise??? If it's tapping does it do it all the time or just when cold??
Which side of the head is it comming from intake side or exhaust side ??

Mmm probably best to whip the rocker off and check the cams...
I has a bit sheared off my cam when mine was tapping luckily caught it just in time, sounded like diesel lol

So did mine I thought mine might have been a stuck tappet, plus a few others have had horror stories about bits of cam that break off and either screw the turbo or mash the engine, either way I would check the cams anyway peace of mind, if its a stuck tappet you might be able to try some of that wynnes hydraulic lifter tappet additive people have said that it works and frees sticky tappets up, can't think what it's called but I'm sure someone will come along and tell you, it's deffo made by wynnes

Would a novice like me be able to visually see any defects on the cams or not?
It going down to rs spares shortly for a little oil leak and an uprated fan loom like.

Ah if it's a recent rebuild it is actually normal to get tapping, it should go away after a few more miles. Just keep an eye on your oil as you said you had a leak.
Ang use the wynnes stuff should be sound then

It's fine to use matey a lot of people have used it on here and had good results, it won't damage your engine
Just take it on a long run if it's been
Sitting and add some wynnes stuff sounds like all the oil has drained from the head into the sump being stood so tappets maybe sticking a bit

Wahay!! I've lost my Virginity!!
I've had it twice last year. 1st time I tried the Wynn´s stuff, Didn´t help. Then I tried the ATF trick. Poored a 1/4 of a liter of ATF in my engine. I then let it idle for a couple of hours so it was hot. I then revved it like a madman and hey presto the noise was gone. Changed the oil twice.
The second time I just gave it the beans, so thrasted it really. Pulled it to 6500 RPM, I never do this, but it did help. The vibrations at higher revs help to unclog the dirt.

As said it's most likely to be the lifters, when was the oil last changed, as if this is neglected this can affect them!
But otherwise if it's been standing for a while it is normal for them to take a while to quieten down.
Worst case scenario one or more of them is blocked, sometimes a 'spirited blast' can help as the oil gets hotter and thus thinner which can help!
Or as said try the Wynns product.
