I was always under the impression the std fans were fine - mine used to work well and the only reason i changed was due to larger radiator so no room.

As for the ones in question i did read on here that someone fitted a set and the failed very quick, 3 weeks if i recall but you never know they may last, is it worth the risk though

slim fans cost money, worth a punt as they are so cheap, but do you want them failing right when you don't need them to fail?

only an option if space is limited i feel

I use the exact same ones mate... And there well worth the money and upgrade...when they come in if I stick my hand behind them.. They feel like they are flowing more than standard cossie ones and quieter.

Thanks for the inputs.

rsmat: Do they stop sooner than the standard ones? In theory they should if they pull more air...

You got to take into account the wear in the old original fans. I recently had my fans diagnosed as drawing too much current n the drift car when getting some charging issues sorted..... planned to replace them after the next BDC round, but ran out of luck when they melted a lot of the car's loom on the start grid! Almost went up in flames....

IME the cheap slimline fans are nowhere near as a decent quality one, pay a bit more and get a kenlowe or similar IMHO

Chip I've ran kenlowes before and I don't see any advantage apart from a bigger price tag... My fans are only in for 1 min at a time... As I have alloy rad , updated fan switch.. Updated thermostat and fan loom... All that makes my cossie run a 1000 times better.

The advantage is they flow more air, and they last longer.

If you spend loads of time sat in traffic then its worth it, but thats probably not what you personally use your car for?

Yes in my experience they do, Ive used both types and the kenlowe just dont ever seem to wear out and definately flow more air.

But obviously the problem with "ebay fans" is that isnt a make, so they may vary, but the couple of cheap ones Ive tried have been pretty pony, hence when I bought one to replace the not up to the job ebay fan I had on my clio till recently I bought a proper kenlowe one instead.

Sounds like your radiator is good enough you hardly need a fan, and that you dont sit in traffic much anyway, so yours probably isnt really testing the fan very hard in reality.
