Default ideas!!!

hi all.. have a problem with my saff 4x4.
when driving for long distance she starts to over fuel in number three cylinder,
have changed the plugs, plug leads, full service too.
when the plug is out of the no.3 cylinder and ignition on, the injector is filling up the cylinder with petrol, when i disconnect the loom from the injector it stops.
IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE (E.C.U.)???
its running on stage 1 chip with blue injectors,
if i leave the injector disconnected for a while,(lets say 50 miles), and refit the injector, everything is ok again, for a while...
checked for shorts in the loom and there was none. so i think its in the (E.C.U.)

ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM??????

thanks in advance
paddy

You say you have checked for shorts. Have you checked where the harness runs through the bulk head into the car? Mine had rubbed through there and was causing overfuelling in number 4 cylinder. Has to be worth a look.

yes, even had the loom out, checked for continuity(spelling) on all wires leading to and from the E.C.U.
this only happens when power is given....

Could be a dodgy injector or more likely as said a errant EARTH signal.
The injectors are LIVE all the time(when ignition ON), the earth is switched by the cu so if a bare(earth)injector wire is resting on earth somewhere, and moving around it will fuel constantly, or if indeed it jams open.
Might be worth having them cleaned in case of obstruction in pintle of no 3.

hi TEBETHA, thanks for replying, ive disconnected the injector and it stops overfueling which means i'm only running on three cylinders. after about twenty to fifty miles, reconnect, car is running fine.i have checked the loom for breaks and shorts,(none).
i think i'm down to the E.C.U. now....

Before you do that swap the injector over with another cylinder and see if the problem moves, that way it will tell you if it is ECU or injector, my money is on injector.

Mine too, sounds exactly the same as mine when it was earthed and working constantly.

Check the injector before you splash out on an ecu.
