Default Removing main crank bolt

My mate is struggling to get his bottom pulley off his engine to do a cambelt.

He has tried nearly everything I can think of with no successm he also tried using the starter to loosen it with a bar connected (not my fav idea) but that didn't work either.

Does anyone have any good suggestions or tips on removing it please ?

Sorry I should said the engine is in the car and the rad and ic are in place so you cannot get a impact gun in there.

As a last resort I've told him to remove the lot and just use his gun

Easy, just put in fifth gear get a helper to jam thier flipper on the brakes whilst he swings with a large breaker bar/socket on the bolt, it WILL then come undone easy, you will have to remove boost hoses etc to get enough swing though.

best method is shocking it open with an impact gun - the £20 12v ones for wheelnuts are superb

needs rad removing though

vinegar apparently helps too

i tried the bar method on the twinkly and, with a 6 foot scafold pole, a 3/4 drive bar, mrs on the brakes and the car in 5th i was moving the car
so bricks to chock the wheels was the next option
the other thing to remember is to make sure you put even pressure on the bar as you turn it (bonnet off and standing on the slam panel i was ) but after about 15 seconds it all came loose and i had to stop myself from tumbling to the floor

you will probably need a puller to get the pulley off too

I've got the Snap On 18v impact gun which I know would breeze it but he didn't want to take the rad out.

I think he actually started his ownthread which Tabetha posted on so I'll leave it for him to sort now.

Thanks for all the advice though
