Default Cam Seals - Are 2WD and 4WD different sizes?

Hello lads,

I've been sent a set of cam seals from a friend, they are from Cosworth but were intended from his 4x4 Sapphire.
When comparing them to a set of my 2WD Sapphire cam seals they appear to have a larger external diameter, and the size numbers stamped on the seal itself a different.

2WD says: BAUM3X7 35-47-7 A CWF 1

4WD says: 36x52x7

I guess what I'm trying to ask is.... Are the 2WD cams smaller?
Also are the half moons and Cam O-rings the same on 2WDs and 4WDs as my friend sent me up a set of Cam O-rings and also a set of Half Moon seals which I'd like to use.

Cheers guys,

Ollie.

As he said, you are better of using VITON though as they will eventually leak, £9 each.

Tell me more mate?.
Is Viton a brand of cam seals or a type or rubber/plastic?.
I wonder if they're available here in New Zealand.

Tabetha, all I need to give them are these numbers right mate?. 35-47-7
Can you also tell me if it's worth getting uprated Cam O-rings aswell, if so I don't suppose you know the size O-ring I need do you?.
I wonder if the Half Moon seals are available too..........

Ohhh so many questions

Viton is just a different material, so what he's suggesting is that you get the same size seals from an alternative source.

Tabetha has mentioned on a few threads that he doesn't like the standard seals and that they cause problems, but TBH I've never had any problems with the standard parts.

The choice is yours.

Thanks again Jon

I guess with these one giving me trouble (they were only replaced 3 months ago with little vehicle use).
I'd rather try and buy the best seals I can.
I'm only getting an oil leak from my right side Cam Seal and also the two front corners of my cam cover.
Is it also worth putting any sealant around my Cam Seals, or do I just stick with some Hylomar Blue around the ends of the half moon seals and on my cam cover gasket?
Does 10-15 Nm or 8-11 lb/ft sound about right for tightening torque when I do up my cam cover bolts guys?

20 questions,

Cheers,

Ollie.

I can't remember the torque off hand.
You do need to put a sealant under the cam caps at the front as well as ends of the half moons.
Viton is a MUCH better material as it is HIGH temp just for starters, but that is why they are £9 each and not pence like the standard ones.
Viton is an industrial grade material, and will be much better.
