17" alloys on Sierra Sapphire
Hi,
Well, my car isn't a Sapphire, cose its from Germany. Still, i think its the same. I want to put 17" rims on my car and I wanted to know the sizes i can use without using any arch mods. Only spacers if needed.
I was thinking of 7,5Jx17"//215/45/17 but i dont know what ET. I have an ideea about what ET is, but i am unsure.
My rims now are 7Jx15" ET 35 H2 <- ??.
So, if someone knows, please respond.
Thank you.

Hello! You can use rims with both 7,5 and 8,0 width. try to stay as close as possible to the standard ET(offset) which is 40mm on a Cosworth and 41mm on a standard Sierra. Then you won,t uset your steering geometry. "15/45x17 tyres will not work so good, because the tyres will touch the spring platform on the shockabsorber because of the bigger diameter. 215/40x17 is no problem at all. Otherwise you have to use coilover suspension. Many guys use offsets of around 35mm, and that is also ok, but not more in my opinion.
Good luck!

What about spacers?
My car is also lowered, but if you say it doesnt rub ... :P
The coils are green and its written Thema Sierra ...
I cant put different sizes because its 4x4. How can I calculate how much is lowered without taking off the coil . I may say it has around 20 cm from center exhaust pipe.
Aaa, and what models you recomend(fair prices though). I was thinking at OZ Superleggera in silver finish..

Not sure how you would tell to be honest mate, without measuring and comparing that to another of standard height.
Have you got any pictures of it, someone may be able to give you a rough idea.
With 215/40/17 you should have no issues on anything up to 8 inch wide with the offset between 35-40 i wouldn't think. You may need spacers if it catches on the inner edges but thats unlikely.
Really though it depends how low it is

Now its with 2 cm lower on the front because i changed the absorbers and the new ones had the mounting "thing"(that ear) a little bit upper, resulting in lowering the car.
What are coilovers?

I was running 17" rims with an ET of 30 and +/-40mm lowering on my Sierra. Not ideally but I got away with it without too much catching on the arch. After some arch flaring my tyres only caught on hard cornering.
