Default Which route to 400bhp?

hi guys, i'm about to embark on a 4x4 mk1 fiesta cosworth project. I'm using fibreglass pannles, perspex etc wherever possible so should be light (aiming for arround 850kgs max). I am looking for a power figure of around 400bhp but hane no idea of the best modifications to choose to acheive a suitable setup for my intended build.
I'm using the 2.0 dohc diffs for better acceleration and want to point out that im more than happy to sacrifice top end speed for low down poke...as long as it does 120mph i'm happy.

I have been told that a T4 and inlet cam will get me 400bhp.....but even i know that this will be too laggy for my liking.

So what do you guys suggest....i'm after 400bhp with maximum response/acceleration.

Obviously cheapest route possible without sacrificing reliability.

Thanks in advance guys

A T34 or T35 turbo I'd say. If the engine is standard compression then probably Greys and about 380bhp safely???

so with standard engine and compression 380bhp with greys and a T34/5 is acheivable?

If so do i need air injectors at this level to control the boost (as i expect the turbo to be working hard) or just a good actuator?

Hi Dan - that head gasket better be good before you take it up that far mate - if the engine is out I'd do that first and ditch the stretch head bolts - put in the arp stud and nut kit. I didn't and it blew within 1,000 mile despite being checked for torque etc. (360bhp). My car shoud be out and about soon ) New everything - just about!
T4 is really laggy mate - T34/5 much better for you I reckon
Cheers,
Andy

a T34.63 and standard cams will do around 380bhp flat out, for this you'd need to run a set of greys or light blues and a 3 bar map sensor. You could also try a smaller variant of the GT30 range of turbos, with an internal wastegate....but for durability the T34's are great

head gasket choice is varied tbh...Grp A alone wouldn't last that long, if you had the block wire rung it'd be fine.

WRC 4 layer is the best to get,but pricey.

standard genuine Cosworth headbolts will work fine, i'd personally avoid a stud and nut kit!

you'll need a decent exhaust system and the standard breather system would need upgrading too

a Grp A 044 fuel pump and also the wiring checked and replaced if necessary (the wiring to the pump)

An RS500 style intercooler

probably loads more i've forgotten about

yeah i have my eyes on this little baby.....

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...R_705330_2.htm I'm liking this one because it'd still be responsive and suitable for this build but when i want to go for more ponies it can stay meaning less outlay for more power in the future (if that makes sense)

im well awre of the need for a large intercooler etc.... i was just wondering on engine specs.....as there seems to be 101 ways to tune a cossie lump nowadays...

So my plan so far is.... Greys, breather kit, wire rung block with YBO611 head gasket std headbolts, big cooler, 044 pump.

On the above spec how much gain would i see if I had it lightly ported and polished, trying to figure out if its worth it or not.......hmmmmmmmm i might just clean up the ports myself and match them to the manifolds.

This business is a bit more involved than i first thought but with a bit of head scratching and a dent to the savings i'll get there

Cheers for the advice guys very much appreciated.
