Default 2wd engine in 4wd car?

hi guys, been on the lookout for a 4x4 engine as i've heard theyre a stronger block...

I'm grafting the 4x4 floorpan and transmision into a mk1 fiesta over the next few months so anyhting upto 400bhp will do to be honest so can anyone see any reason why i couldnt use a 2wd engine with the 4x4 sump/pickup? i know the 4x4 engines are stronger but i'd only be wanting ~400bhp ish...

Just it'd save me about a grand using a 2wd engine...thought i'd ask you guys before i go out and buy one.

the 4x4 block is said to be stronger. whether you need that in a lighter car i don't know.

Yup, "only" 400bhp? In a Fiesta?

will my budget is for a good stage 3 to start with tyhen build to 400 next year after ironingh out any issues....

Got my mk1 in the garage (34 minter with zero rot..garaged all its life)
Got my panique bodykit for it today from north wales (240 mile round trip)
Got a 2 litre dohc xr4x4 coming for floorpan and transmission (was 200 quid locally and is near mint but no mot/tax hence low price)

All i need to source now really is the engine; and as we all know the 205 2wd are capable of 400bhp without strength issues so i thought i'd try and save cash instead of buying a more expensive 4x4 engine....

although 205 blocks are quite cheap so i could buy a spare and if it did ever fuck up i could build a complete engine again and sell......worth a think i think...hmmmm
