Mk2 FRSs as a daily?
Been offered a very nice mk2 frs by mate, 13k miles, revo stage 4, 6pot aps, blah blah blah, if I was to have it it would have to be my daily runner, works only about 3 miles away so fuel consumption not a problem really, anyone used one daily?

You'd be surprised mate, I know loads of folks with them that use them as second cars and barely see the light of day, not worried about anything in particular tbh, just wondering what they're like to live with day to day really, I love them personally, the only worry I'd have is that it would be on the drive and with the amount that are going missing lately would it be a good idea?

It's a modern car, can't see why it couldn't be a daily driver, unless you were worried about the things that come with a daily, miles, leaving it unattended for long periods of time, bell ends banging there car doors into in tesco car park and the like. There's a guy on my town who has an ultimate green one as a daily, had it a couple of years, he's out in all the time, in all weathers.

Wow. I guess the people using them as second cars are more the old skool RS enthusiast? It seems a very backward thing to do with modern cars. I'd hope that on a modern car like a mk2 FRS you wont see the wear/tear/rust like on a mk4 rst
I've been in and driven my mates 440 spec car and it's awesome. I really fancy one but in Oz they are still $50k. Back home I'm not sure I'd get one for the sheer chav factor. Up my way in Aberdeen it is ridiculous! More owners want to put stickers on their cars and rev them in car parks all night

Don't really see why this is even a dilemma isn't it basically just a 4 year old (max) Ford Focus? You won't have any reliability issues and the prices are still way high, so even if it's got more miles it will hold its value regardless.

Back down to earth reply here sorry...
Would you wanna use it as a daily Karl?
I know it's a nice idea, but with your currently daily you probably don't worry about parking it anywhere, and on the nice days you enjoy taking the Cossy out...
Get another RS and you won't know which one to use, you'll worry about using both...
The focus will be ŁŁŁŁ to tax and insure...
I'd say its a nice idea if you've got massive amounts of spare money every month...
I'd say no mate and stick with your current cars, try and enjoy the Cossy this year and get it as you want it...
Plus it's unwanted attention IMO...
Nobody knows what cars you've got in the garage if any, get a focus as a daily and scum might start following you home, they'll start eyeing up taking the focus and hit the jackpot with your house and take the Cossy aswell...

I use mine as a daily, yes tyre wear is not so good but the rest of the car is awesome. It's a very fun car to drive and can't help take the long way home, only prob with that is mines done nearly 40k now

............
No issues with using them daily, they are a focus so will be fine!
However they are due a price drop IMO especially as the next RS is on the horizon in the next 1-2 years
No dount they will drop to a base then creep back up again as per good FRS 1's

i used my mk1 RS as a daily for 5 years. no bother
the only downside is the 5 pot is a bit thirsty. but a 3 mile commute it hardly matters.
i used mien for all sorts, commuting, carrying mates around, its just a car at the end of the day. used to get funny looks turning up at the recycling centre with a tree full of house or garden rubbish ....but its just a ford hatch at the end of the day

I think what you've said is exactly why I put this post up tbh mate, I really want one, but it would have to be my daily if I was to have one, pretty much everyone i know with one, except for the lad who's selling this one uses theirs as a second car so just thought I'd ask on here. All the points you've mentioned have gone through my mind, it would seem a backward step in some ways, my leon does 55-60mpg, costs Ł125 per year to tax and is pretty inconspicuous compared to a frs, but I still really want one lol
I'd worry about being followed home and them finding your Cossy there... Used to get a lot of this happening around Stoke years ago... It still goes on...
I've heard of a local lad's Mk2 going missing a month or so ago...
Focus's are easily replaceable, your Cossy isn't...
You'll just get fed up with looking after 2 RS's... it becomes a chore...

The serious criminals don't need to follow you home as they will get your plate and get thier mate in a local dodgy recovery, parking or debt company to look up the address on the DVLA database that they kindly sell access to all and sundry.

I remember when they were about a year old and they dropped to about Ł18k, I thought they were going to plummet to about Ł13k after 3 years but they recovered and are probably on average about Ł19-Ł20k with a few exceptions. Get it bought mate, at the moment it's the only car I'd sell my mk1 FRS for.

Yes. I'm growing away from Evos and I just want something newer and more everyday. I've currently got the Tommi Mak, which is a garage ornament and a Passat for every day. I use the Passat almost exclusively and I hate it because it's slow.

As for the Focus, a lot of people I know have sold Cossies etc and moved on to Focuses and treat them the same as their old Cossies etc, personal choice at the end of the day, a lot of people like having something they can use when they choose to, not because thay have to. If I had a Focus it would have to be a daily, it's as simple as that, it's just a hell of a lot of money for a daily (To me anyway) so was just wanting to know peoples opinions that's all

Why do you think the prices will drop btw?[/QUOTE]
They seem to have stayed at the same sort of price for ages so you would have thought they will have to drop soon

That's no real reason for them to drop though is it? Until another Focus RS comes along (if one does come along ???) I think they will pretty much hold their value, they may possibly drop a bit when the new Mustang comes on the scene but that's not for another year yet.
