So we all know the MFI systems are old, worn etc so in the best light what should the regulated pressure be, so i think if sticking a gauge or even an after-market fuel pressure reg on the system on the return you would want to see around 2.3 to 2.3? (on the metering return).

Just alot of the RS escorts running the MFI having hot starts seem to have a conmen fault of been low on the fuel pressure due to a fault with the fuel pressure regulator on return .......not the fuel EMPA by the way but the pressure regulator on the back side round part people think there's a hose missing from so would love to know what the data/spec should be on the pressure reg i seem to get no further issues with a setting of the above 2.3 ish.

Thanks for you reply Tony. What i carnt work out (maybe because tierd) obs the system uses the Pressure reg as a secondary the EMPA is the main/controlled, If i was to remove the pressure regulator (not EMPA) what should i set it at on a after market fuel pressure regulator ? the 85 psi as you stated ? many thanks Tony I know your a busy man but VERY HELPFUL !

why do you want to change a perfectly good regulator designed by bosch to do the job which it does perfectly for a non OE part

Because its failed and a new one (if i could buy one) is a fortune when a adjustable FPR is just as good BUT not knowing the presser valve setting was the issue, it not a choice its a solution more than anything Tony to keep a car n the road Take it they are loaded at the pate of 85psi then ? thanks

I fitted a fuel pressure gauge between my fuel filter and metering head. It's proved very helpful in troubleshooting.

Sits on 80-90psi when running. Maintains about 30psi with the car off.

Not sure of the part your attempting to change. The black electronic bit on the back of the metering head? (Name escapes me) this regulates how much fuel gets through to injectors based on various information from sensors and fuel ecu.

If you were to change it for an aftermarket one then yes 85psi or 6bar.

andyrst88 he is talking about the base fuel pressure regulator not the EMFPA mate.
