What would you do, 88 or 90 Spec?
Hi,
Just after opinions on what to do with my 88spec Escort.... I will be selling it next year and want to sort a slightly faded bumper out.
The trouble is the front bumper is 88spec, the rear spoiler is 90 spec and the rear lights are smoked.... I have been considering returning it to a full 88 spec as it has the correct seats etc however I just hate the 88spec spoiler!
When people buy an RS are they really bothered about what kit is fitted? and whether it is the correct kit for the year etc? I personally prefer the full 90 spec but as the car has the original block etc so perhaps originality it a winner here?
Thanks

10K+ Poster!!
I think a few years ago everyone wanted a 90 spec car, but now I think people prefer originality. Get an 88 spec spoiler and keep it to one side until you are looking to sell, then when you put it you put it up for sale, swap them over. Sorted!

Yes I think so mate, I just don't use it. When I did drive it I was a hopeless wreck any time it started to rain etc. Been garaged for nearly 5 years now so want to have time to properly finish it this summer, go to a few shows and then put it up for sale.
I also don't trust my self with it as every time I think too hard about it I start seeing tubular manifolds and a GTX30 lol

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
It does seem that people are after real original examples but it wouldn't put me off buying as I understand that the 90 spec is better looking in most eyes if it was me I'd do 90 spec outside and leave the interior best of both as the dark interior is much better IMO

Thats my personal favourite too, its such a simple choice so I don't know why I'm flapping about it! Part of me likes the originality the 88 spec stuff would add... the car has the original block etcetc but maybe I'm over thinking it and should just go with what looks good and keep the 88spec kit to offer to buyer in the future?

My car is a G plate, came from the factory with 90 inside but 80 outside, I'm having the same issue but mine is rwd converted to Cossie so hardly original but I do like the 80 bumper, think it looks a bit more aggressive. To me 80 inside on an D, E or F plate needs 80 outside, If I could get 80 spec interior for mine as good as the 90 I have I would change it.
The rear lights what ever spec or year the car is need to be the tinted IMO

Agree that the smoked rears look better, or better still the type that twins makes, but something about ambers is just retro cool imo.
I think im edging towards ambers all round, 88/90 spec front bumper (see how I feel in a few weeks), 90 spec spoiler and keep the 88spec stuff on the shelf to offer to someone in the future.
The 88 spec interior is defo staying, bar the 2wd cosworth steering wheel it has already fitted.
Thanks for the thoughts guys.
