I always think valuations are a bit rubbish tbh. If its just an 'out of interest' thing then you can't beat looking through eBay's completed listings and looking for a similar car that has actually sold.
That way you get to see what people are actually willing to pay for something, which ultimately is what it is worth... what someone will pay.
I have seen minty mint RS Turbo's with 60-70K sell for between 5 and 7K in the last few years.
80-90K and clean for 4-5K
Clean but not mint for 3500-4
Ok for 2-3K
All else is sub 2K.
The issue for you will be rust, 25 years old and been stood will mean rust in the usual places, or at least the potential of rust. Look under the boot carpet (remove the wheel arch carpet too) and look for scabs along the wheel arch to boot floor edge, any bubble spells bad news for the chassis legs. Also take the battery out and have a good old poke.
Take the carpet up under the passenger and drivers front foot well and look for historic welded repairs or just rust. Take the interior sill covers off and pull the carpet back and look for rust between on the seam between floor and sill... this will mean inner sill rust.
Good luck and hope you have found a winner

Good shell, quite original with little or no history gotta be worth 3k, hpi it and if registered then take a grand off that
No way of proving its 21k and as for no mot since 1991 seems a little moody to me, not being inflammatory, just call me a sceptic

Indeed this is a different one, cheers Dal. Bizarrely he also found a white one with 21k miles! lol. I think theirs was up for £14k if I remember correctly.

It is a lot of money, accepted. To be honest we found it a difficult one to price.
In the flesh it looks very clean - something that just doesn't come across in the photos of the car. A number of people in the industry came up with very similar figures on their own too. (Bearing in mind we are a dealer, not a private seller.)
One very similar car recently went up for £14k - same mileage, very clean car - but standard, with history and without the black mark that this one has. So, what does that detract from the value? We think it's a question that only someone genuinely interested in the car and stood in front of it can answer.
Needless to say, we're open to serious offers - you can always come down on a price but you can't go up!

The car is pretty much what i am looking for a nice clean white rs turbo i don't really care about the history as i plan on keeping 1 for the foreseeable but my problem is if shit was to hit the fan i have to try and sell it with a dodgy past etc i wouldn't want that amount of money in it.

Its a shame you dont want to spent a couple of hundred pounds to make it more sellable.
The clear indicators, side repeaters really should be standard ford amber items, The lack of Spotlights and brackets, dealership plates/sticker and tax disc holder and dizzy heat shield and tailgate badge would be a bartering point.
The late spec bumper, spoiler and tailgate decal isn't a big deal for some, but for those who want standard spoiler means a lot of work to the tailgate.
Still at least being a dealer you can sit on it for sometime until someone wants to buy it.

It was always the plan at the very beginning to put it back to standard. However, as time went on, it just seems to sit right as-is - plus I know we'd struggle to find some parts like a standard exhaust, so for us it was to be either 100% standard or leave as-is and re-commission. The spend itself wasn't an issue as we've thrown a fair bit of money at it already.

This is true but I have seen some rusty(ish) RST being sold close to 10k (well, around 7 to 8k). Mine is relatively rust free but modified (5th injector, Leda and polybushed suspensin, 1.8 ZVH). I was originally after a Stage 1 RST S1 but this was too good to pass up. I would have valued it at 8k tops with a clean interior refitted (almost done). When the previous owner offered me £8k without me even finishing it (thinking it is worth £10k :S) it was a bit of eye opener.
That said, the shell has seen 160k, albeit no other component has (brakes are different, almost everyone was refurbished 6k ago).

£12k for an S2 with questionable history and a mismatch of parts is mental IMO, you can put the parts right but not the history, and the originality is also lost. Some RST's will fetch this price an much more.....if anyone pays £12k for this they need their head testing IMO. Sorry if that sounds harsh

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I like know what he paid for it. A blind man on a galloping horse can tell that's not a car that been used for 2 yrs then stored, why the fuck would you take off the original parts and put the wrong ones back on definitely been stripped at some point. That said it is a clean shell 4 to 5k car imo

We have just dropped the price of the RS for two reasons. Firstly, we need to make way for more cars coming in so need the space. Secondly, general opinion (but not all!) is that the price is too much.
We're not out to rob anyone, or pull the wool over anyone's eyes. We've been completely open about the facts of what we know about the car. As I think we mentioned earlier, when a similar car and mileage recently sells at about £14k, it's your yard stick on a price.
Granted, our car isn't completely standard or has the impeccable history of the £14k one, but how much do you drop the price to compensate that? It's quite subjective and down to opinion we think. We've tested the market at a price, but clearly that's out, so we do listen.
Anyway, listed price is now at £9,995 for what is a very straight car. If the history, or lack of bothers you, you wont buy it. It's as simple as that!
Thanks for all the comments.

You could always price it the way you price a trade in
ok a mint one with all the history is 14k but imagine yours had all the history but is on the hpi well thats 33% off straight away so that takes us to £9380.
Now yours has no history, is on vcar, has no paper work to substantiate anything but we do know it has a chequered past and a previous owner to verify that. Surely thats got to knock atleast another 25-30% off the price so £6500 seems generous in my experience

No one has been to see the car as it currently stands so that's a bit of a misleading comment.

A straight car like this will always find a buyer eventually.

I'm Finding My Feet Here Now
The others who also valued it at a similar price to you, I presume, are also traders, enough said !!
I bough the 23k mile S2 off Gary Jones, and although it doesn't have a "full paperwork" history as such, it is/was well a known car in the RSOC and concourse scene up to 2009/10 and had two well known owners in RS circles.
It is MINT, the seats and interior are perfect, the bodywork is lovely, the engine bay is completely standard, it has a stamped service book etc etc etc.
Why would someone pay £12k, £10 or even £6k for this, when KGF can source a fully documented one for that sort of money.
The reason nobody's viewed it, is because (for me) firstly, it's another trader trying to make a fast buck, and, it's not a particularly nice car.
You say at £6.5k you'd make a loss, meaning you must have £7k in it, I would hate to think I had £7k in that car (even in a private sale) I think you should bite the bullet and cut your losses, as nobody's going to pay anywhere near double figures, as a starter I'd want a pair of spotlights.
Sorry to sound so negative, but I think I'm talking for lots of people, it's a shit car, at an over inflated price.

With respect. You bought a melon, in the hope that, as lots of other traders have done, could flip it for a £5k margin.

Although it looks nice it's no 10k car with the history it has IMO
