Default Anyone know anything about this car? Xr3 carb turbo?

Anyone know anything about this? Did it leave the factory like it?

Its a white Y reg mk3 xr3, but has a series 2 cvh on a carb on a t34 turbo?? With rs1600i interior, series 1 kit, sunroof.

The current owner claims that its an 'xr3 escort turbo championship car'

The reg is PEU 635Y. He claims it to be the same as 'KEV 100Y'
Which i dont know anything about either?

Thinks its a weird story to be honest. But from what you have seen, whats it worth?? Its on cossie brakes front and rear and adustable konis

I remember reading on the xroc a while ago that there was a turbo kit made for the carb xr3 something to do with ford Motorsport and was quite rare due to the price and the fact the carb xr3 wasnt made for long not sure on the special mode though

Should it not be a twin bolt strut top at that age? Can't really see the gutter rails properly in that photo but they look a bit longer than they should too.

most of the engine bits are wrong to be fair,
shell is wrong

engine had a TT style dizzy, didnt have an RST manifold and had an oil cooled T3 and certainly didnt have an XR3i fuel accumulator

I agree that this looks like someones project. Too many "wrong" parts to attract any special value in my opinion.

There was a Ford kit for the Carb XR3 and used in the championship. This was what eventually led to the S1 RST production model although they had moved onto fuel injection by this stage.

The Micro Dynamics ignition retarder is aftermarket, they also make fifth injector controllers and were not around in 1982 as far as I know.

I've seen this. He hadn't had it running for a while and I looked at it for him and found some bodged wiring under the fuse box and got it going till it ran out of fuel!

I think the owner's name is Chris?

He was quite adament it was a prototype for the S1 in the Escort challenge or something... It all went a bit above my head when he was talking about it.

It looked very clean when I saw it about a year or so ago.

Pretty sure that's a later shell without looking any further than under the bonnet. The original car that the registration number belongs to may well have been a prototype of some sort but I doubt it was that one.

The RS Carb/plenum looks expensive if it was a 1 off

Ford rally championship kit is a possibility. It was a kit offered by ford that converted the carb to turbo. The kit was engineered by the SPV section for the rally (group A or B - I always get them mixed up).
It differs from the turbo technics kit considerably to the trained eye (not that I know but have been told)
There are rumours or SPV vehicles running the kit and conversion being out there which were prototypes. Most of the prototype pics I've seen all run the EVX reg index as its the prefix for the research centres area.
Finding any info on the kit or the cars has always been a nightmare. That kit looks different to the one I have seen, but I have some paperwork on the kit as it was offered by ford if you want a copy.
Would be good to find out if there's another one out there or indeed what you have any info on your car additional to what I have or know.
If I can figure out how to upload a photo of the cover I will

In the early years of pace products they used to turbo a lot of cars
And they did a kit for the rs1600i and xr2 and 3
