Default S1 anti roll bar or RS 1600i anti roll bar?

Alright peeps,

i have a choice of either to fit to my 230bhp 1600 s1 rs turbo?

The only thing is i've heard different opinions on both. Thought i'd ask everyone here and see what they think?

Has anyone fitted the 16i roll bar to an s1 yet? any noticeable handling differences etc?

cheeRS in advance

Arent they the same, only S1 item is cast and the 16i item is ally, so lighter?

the 16i is thicker with thicker clamps aswell.

the s1 is a little thinner with thinner looking clamps which i know from experience snap very easily

i suppose what one had the better handling

i suppose i want my car to drive as a standard s1 does but with a stronger roll bar system.

I haven't really driven a rs1600i so don't know how diferent it drives to the s1. But i do know the s1 anti roll bar seems to be ok but never looked a heavy duty unit.

Want my car to be able to handle in terms of street driving and be good enough to share a track day and everyday use aswell.

Try both (one at a time lol) and see which YOU prefer would be my advice then

If you dont know what your looking for you wont notice any difference

do u know if theres a major difference between both in handling?

one side says stick with original s1 anti roll bar, the other side says the 1600i had alot of motorsport heritage and there anti roll bar may have been better designed as it was less focused on customers and its motorsport side of things.

hope that makes sense

Makes sense yes, but they both had different suspension units and corner weight distribution.

So unless your swapping all you wont notice a lot in handling, but you may get more understeer with the bigger item on your S1 depending on the tyres and other set-up conditions (castor/camber etc) and which rear ARB you have.

its the original s1 rear anti roll bar still fitted.

the16i wasn't setup for a turbo engine, although no one i know has tried the roll bar with an s1. so it abit of a grey area for me personally. Suppose that why i'm trying to construct some logical reasoning to them both.

chers again

The RS1600i is much lighter than the RS Turbo version - about half the weight I would guess.

Apart from that I don't think there's a lot in it.

Coilover Billies, adjustable TCA's, and MEF tension struts on a 16i alloy crossmember No need for a roll bar

I changed my S1 setup to a RS1600i setup and I absolutely prefer the later. I'd expect the solid one piece front x-member to be an improvement even on it's own with no ARB.
