If its your dream car then go for it. You only live once and better to give it a go than always wonder. Its the same with any car i suppose in that you get what you pay for but if you don't know what your looking at then take somebody with you. Im on my fourth now and like you they are my dream machine. You can get loads of help on http://www.escortrscosworth.com/

I bought one off the escort forum this year and it's the best Cosworth I've had, I've found it much nicer to drive and live with compared to the sierra saphs I had, don't regret buying one bit and they look awesome. Like any old car buy something decent to start with and maintain it well.

Mine wants for nothing and in turn is a pleasure to own. I don't drive mine an awful lot but when I do it always exceeds my expectations of it. I think the key is keep it up together and also get a good one in the first place and you can't really go wrong.

get one thats been looked after well rather than price or mods.
Also coming from an FRP you will find a standard escos is much faster in a straight line, but the FRP will carry higher speeds through the corner and is more nimble on tighter B-roads.
Not saying the escos doesnt handle, it does its just that the FRP is very very good for a FWD car and as standard comes with suspension that is more track spec than road as standard.
decent suspension and uprated bushes and an escos will handle great though.
keep it stage 3 or below otherwise you will start killing transmission componants if you drive it hard or go on track. All the transmission problems are easily fixed with uprated componants just it isnt cheap and hence where cossies start to become silly expensive.

I bought a small turbo model 4 years ago and kept it for 2 years.was my dream car too and and had to have one.
i wont lie to you it did have its problems to begin with but only due to neglect or poor maintenece from previous owners.once they were ironed out it was a brilliant all round car and loved it.Also the attention they draw is immense, they have so much road presence and youll always get people asking you if its a real one and watch there face when u tell them it is.just make sure youve got some money on the side burner for when things go wrong.
The only thing that bugged me was i the paranoia of leaving it anywhere.had to sell it as i lost my storage and didnt dare keep it outside my house.would love another.
You only live once dude, treat yourself
This was mine

I disagree! I paid £10300 for mine and was faultless, much better than some of the overpriced low mileage tat that I looked at with sills hanging off! I really really really regret selling it now

Get some high quality photos taken of your car, I know someone who is/was interested but didnt want to travel until he had seen some decent photos of certain areas of the car. You will sell that no problem if you get them photos.

Hi mate i have own a lot of diffrent car V10 BMW M5, Evo 6, AMG Mercedes, but they are still not as fun to drive as am Escort cosworth. I bought a small turbo model as in my option the are the best engines they have a better head and better inlet manifold but with the Ford EEC engine management the are restricted to about 300bhp. There are a few different ways to get more power you could change out the ECU for an aftermarket one or go down the route I have and change the ECU and wiring loom for a Big turbo model both are relatively easy to do if you have some mechanical skills, mine should be running about 400bhp after the ECU change out. Once the ECU and engine loom have been changed the only limiting factor for big power is you pocket. If I was you I would buy a standard one and modify it yourself. I have owned my now for three years I have had a couple of minor problem but other than that it has been a great car to own.
