Default Who do you use for services??

Going to get mine serviced soon ready for the summer but had originally thought about going to Ford so i could keep the service book all Ford But have been put off a little

So who do you use?

All those bufty originals out there with low mileage escorts what do you do??

Think i might give Mark Shead a call as he serviced my last escos

Yes, this is what i do, had it serviced at castle performance at 72k when i bought it, its now on 76k will probably take it to local ford bristol street at 80k, but i do oil change every 2k, plugs have always been ok so far.

I took my Saff to Ford years ago and they did not have a clue, broke my fuel filter cradle, kept the car for days (for a service!!!) tried to charge me double what I was quoted too
The whole thing got very messy but ended with the service manager charging me the originally quoted price, personally bringing my car to my workplace and apologising saying he hoped this wouldn't stop me going back again
it did

I'd be happier buying a car that's been stamped by a good tuner than Ford..

Even if the owner serviced it himself would suit me, obviously as long as he wasn't a total plum

What about them? If you need a piece of paper full of stamps to tell you whether a car is worth buying or not then you really should be taking someone with you who knows about cars.

Why should i pay someone i dont know to do a job that i can do myself. And if you think FSH is the be all and end all then you're missing out on some very very well maintained cars my friend.

I read an article the other day regarding service history & the general concensus (sp) was that it was a waste of money.

yep im with this!!! it would take somebody with a white stick and golden labrador to see that my car and most of the cars on this section arent looked after and maintained at all costs. FSH means nothing to me. Anyway surely a folder full of every receipt for the last 8 years and an excel spreadsheet documenting every single one of those receipts will mean more to a buyer, i know it would for me.

i would not spend 15-20k on a car with out a f.s.h its not a good saleing point at the end of the day thats one of the first things people ask for but then if you got no plans of saleing why not

Id see it as a bad thing if i saw a load of Ford stamps in the book!!!! I wouldnt trust them with a 1.0 fiesta, let alone an escos!!!!

A few specialist stamps and/or a well presented folder of receipts with dates, means much more than a stamped up book by Ford in my opinion.

I'm the same - now onto 2 A4 ring binders full of pretty much all of the old receipts for the car....
And they seems to be growing at an exponential rate too...

Mine has had the book written in for every thing that has been done to it, from just a simple oil change, to full set-up etc....
Previous owners did a top job IMO

Dave, what about the previous owner of your car then? Did he have it looked after and serviced by Ford?

I do all my own work on my Escort Cosworth, and have kept every receipt since I bought it. It also came with a book of receipts. I’ve also got a spreadsheet for every fill up of petrol I’ve ever done, with mileage, cost, amount of litres, cost per litre etc. it was done at. Then I calculate my fuel consumption at every fill up. How sad is that.

I use an x RS mechanic to do all my servicing, he's gone self employed & comes to the house so no worries about 20 mile test drives.

Even better that he's into cosworths & does all his own work on his car. 350 BHP saff.

Chris.

Thats a bit much haha!! that would not be good working out mpg figures

Nice spreadsheet Monster!!! mines a bit like that but without the mileage column. Its not good if you put an autosum on the spend column either

oilcosworth :- I have a good friend at my work who swears by these guys that much so that another work colleauge has just booked a set up with them for his TVR Griffith 500. I took a drive down there once in my ECossy to ask a few questions and see if they would have a look. Like you say mate, they do sound a real genuine bunch although i'm not sure who it was I spoke too. I am tempted to have the work done there because as you say, the seem to know what they are talking about

Actually the MPG is a good tell tale sign (IMO) of how the engine is performing and if the engine is in need of a tune up. (My personal opinion, so please don’t start a war over it.) I do approximately 110 miles a day everyday, so am filling up every second or third day. I know how I’ve driven the car in the past few days, so expect a certain MPG. If I don’t get this then I know the engine needs looking at. If, as many people on this forum probably do, only drive their cars at the weekend, and only on sunny days, then it’s difficult to use MPG to determine the state of your engine tune, as they’re probably ragging the hell out of it at these times.

Same as mate i went down to the local ford dealer (to get parts) HAYNES OF MAIDSTONE (bear in mind the owner used to race saphs and an escos) an they asked me if the car was a 2 litre model
