Default importing a cossie

Hi there, whilst browsing for a escort forum, this seemed the best one to post on, but please if there are any good site link, send them my way.
Ignore my username as it seemed u guys were enemies of scoobies, vice versa, but i'm a car fanatic so i don't usually mind too much the make, though tbh i never liked fords since my mum always drove every mk fiesta there is!

Anyway the only Ford i really ever liked was the cossie as a kid, i have come across from what it seems like a rare find in the unexpected place.

In my family village in Hong Kong, there has been a cossie left there for a few years. It's white and from what i remember 30k-40k on it and this could be in km as i'm sure they work with kilometres over there. Each time i've been back it's been parked exactly as it has been since i first saw it roughly 3 years ago. It's got the black leather interior and seems to be immaculate and as a car fanatic i would love to clean it to see if how it polishes up.

Anyway i'm going to go in a month or so and asked my dad about the car, he's convinced i could get it next to nothing but should pay at least a little towards it. As my dad knows the guy and i did ask about it a year back, he told me that the guy's son owns the car he's doing well financially abroad and has totally forgotten about it altogether.

So i'm hopefully going to make an offer when i go back for the car but that all depends on when i have a look around the car which brings me here, as i'm sure i'm at the right place to be, since this forum seems like you guys have knowledge and friendly to ask questions on what should i check for, common problems, what should i expect on a car been sat there for so long. Any ideas on importing cars over from HK?

Also if i was to need parts, as they seem like a rare car, where can i get parts from and are they expensive? cheap? equally hard to get?

Being perfectly honest, i want this car as an investment for a house, but i could be tempted as with all powerful cars, but if there are any advise you could help me on i would be utmost grateful.

P.s Also if there were certain facelifts, or minor changes they made during each year of production that i wouldn't notice at first glance as i did read something about single large turbo, etc.

Most appreciated

Also what prices do most fetch for, the car seemed totally unmodified.

Thanks

Sounds like a good find!!!
A car sitting that long could be one of 2 things- Mint or Not mint!!!
Models- There are really only 2 worth comparing them with, although the 2 catagories will have varying models (que Monte lovers).
Firstly the early ones.
Cosworth cam covers, fuel filler cap, mk5 escort mirrors
Late ones
Silver cam covers, fuel filler flap, mk6 escort mirrors.
These are the most obvious differences to spot.
A car that has been sitting for this long may have a few perished rubbers, flat tyres (or cracked), and some small corrosion of minor parts. On the outside a few scrapes and minor dents are to be expected.
Some Parts for these cars are very rare, but alot you can still buy from main dealers. Most parts people sell on here or can find. I built a car from a bare shell over the last 4 years, without too many problems locating parts.
You'll be able to ship the car easily in a container these days, but beware of the import taxes you may be stung with.
Other than that it's your choice, as we haven't seen the car!!!

Wow, another potential owner from HK. Be very careful when encountering such a find, I had such a find 2yrs ago when I was looking for one, only to find there is a pond in the footwell. Apparently the car had an accident and poorly repaired. not many garage is capable of fixing the car (in HK), I should know, as I'm training my mechanic to fix my car! Parts are expensive and difficult to source, so unless the owner is dedicated (like me) otherwise the car is most likely to be poorly maintained. Good luck.
