Calling all Ford nerds - Sierra GLS Alloys!!

Having a disagreement with a mate about Sierra GLS wheels. I know the later ones had wheel trims like this...

http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4039/4...2a99cd8b06.jpg

But I'm sure that the early Mk2 GLS Sierras had pretty much identical alloys. I presume they switched to save costs. My mate is convinced they were always wheel trims, but I can't find anything online to prove my point...

Does anyone have any pics, or has anyone owned a Sierra GLS with OE alloys????

gjh 11-10-2013 02:48 PM

My dad had a GLS, but that was on wheel trims, don't really remember seeing any with alloys

KSA-Cossie 11-10-2013 02:49 PM

Wheel trims, granadas had them as alloys.

Less. 11-10-2013 02:51 PM

Don't ever remember the Sierra 2.0 Glsii having alloys all Dojj will know no doubt

DanW@FastFord 11-10-2013 02:55 PM

The vast majority had trims - but it was the early ones, I'm 99% convinced they were alloy!

From a 1992 ford brochure.

Rax 11-10-2013 03:57 PM

Early ones had trims, later alloys as Glenn has shown. We had a brand new 89 glsi it was on trims.Plus out of the other probably 200 Sierras we had nothing except ghia,XR or cosworth came with alloys.Facelifts got them on the special editions as they were coming to an end.

Glenn_ 11-10-2013 04:04 PM

The sierras were/are a good old car.I do like a nice looking hatchback.

chris cdti 11-10-2013 04:10 PM

The alloys in the brochure on the 92 car where fitted on the 90 onwards glx also. The glsi had special steel wheels with larger and smaller holes to line up with the wheel trim. A bit like the structure wheels on the 07 focus and vectra exclusive.

Rax 11-10-2013 04:12 PM

With you there Glenn.
Sad as it is I would love a silver mk1 Ghia with alloys running 45's

chris cdti 11-10-2013 04:12 PM

Even the glsi v6 4x4 had wheel trims. Poor mans xr4x4............

Those alloy wheels are very different to the trims Dan posted!

Twins 11-10-2013 04:49 PM

they also had a pepper pot version on the early ones

Daviet 11-10-2013 04:52 PM

lee2cossies 11-10-2013 04:53 PM

Sure they all had trims as in the first picture then moved to a different trim on facelift then finally a alloy similar to dog leg. The pepper pot type trim was on a mk1 2.0 is. I'd love one of them!

Glenn_ 11-10-2013 04:55 PM

That's a sierra gt. based on a 2.0 lx but with b post decal alloys and spoiler. Some had special seats with matching colours to the paint.

Nowt else to do lol.

Ade 11-10-2013 05:18 PM

All those brochures are way too new being late 80s/early 90s!
This thread hasn't gone nearly geeky enough yet to uncover any pre production (at best!) GLS alloys.
