Default do small ends need machining?

Rebuilding cozy engine AGAIN due to a spun shell, and puting small ends in it thistime to b on safe side.engineer whos doin the work says the small ends need machining to fit gudion pin. It this right?? Got them from matt lewis...

Yes the little ends are unfinished as they come. They are a press fit into the little end of the rod, then need accurately machining to size afterwards. Not a simple job!

They will need machining to a tolerance that leaves .001" oil clearance oversize compared to the O/D of the gudgeon pin

Any less they wear/seize any more they rattle
