No Spark on a cossie

i have no spark from the coil
I take the coil lead of the dizzy and put it to earth: when you turn the key to the ignition on there is a spark. When cranking the engine no spark http://www.rsclassics360.co.uk/forum...ault/angry.gif
Any ideas lads???!!!!

Check phase sensor and crank sensor first they are usual culprits

J1mbo 17-02-2012 07:54 PM

If you have a cap from the coil to the cap but nothing the other side of the cap then I'd say try swapping the cap for another :D

Gary @ RS CLASSICS 17-02-2012 07:59 PM

when the lead is off the cap (coil lead to cap) there is a spark when the key is turned to ignition lights. When crranking the engine over there is no park from the lead

i have just got this car in and it has not been started for 3 years. full service today plugs etc. if the guy before put the CPS and the Phase sensor plug the wrong way round would this cause the problem
if not what would be the symptom

Gary @ RS CLASSICS 17-02-2012 08:03 PM

tried CPS no change: tried different ECU no change

J1mbo 17-02-2012 08:05 PM

Try cap Gary, like I say, you have spark going in but not coming out, worth a punt.

Ps, did you see if you had them trim bits? :D

Gary @ RS CLASSICS 17-02-2012 08:06 PM

sent you a pm

Don't think it's the cap, as that would not prevent it sparking whilst it's turning over.

Maybe the coil itself or possibly the amp?

Martin

Hi martin, after speaking with Gary we've ruled out dizzy cap, I believed he had a spark from the coil when cranking but he dosnt :top:

Gary @ RS CLASSICS 18-02-2012 07:17 PM

problem solved thanks for your help everyone

JamesH 18-02-2012 07:39 PM

What was the problem in the end?

COLEYST200 18-02-2012 07:41 PM

so wot was it then mate

Gary @ RS CLASSICS 18-02-2012 08:38 PM

the guy i got the car from had plugged the CPS plug in to the Dizzy and the Dizzy plug into the CPS.
swapped this morning and fired up straight away. Problem was the plugs are both black so i checked the wire colours on another loom i had

martysmartie 19-02-2012 10:31 AM

Glad it's sorted, common mistake is that.

Martin

:DD: So am I mate

Mungus 19-02-2012 06:52 PM

Really strange, I got exactly the same problem tonight.
Ran the car, took it around the block, parked it back on the drive for a wash, wouldnt start after.

Exactly the same issue.... the coil lead will arc when put to earth as soon the ignition is on, but wont spark when turning over :(

I thought it was the group A coil which had died. Havent messed with any CPS/Dizzy.... could someone post how they should be please??

Thanks
Huw

martysmartie 19-02-2012 06:54 PM

All it is, the CPS and phase have the same connectors and physically can be interconnected to each other by mistake, this won't be your issue, as you say you haven't touched anything!

Maybe ignition amp?

Martin

Mungus 19-02-2012 07:00 PM

Just looked at mine ... I have a black lead and black plug going to the dizzy and a black lead with white plug going to a sensor at the side of the oil filter.

Is this the CPS?

Is mine right?
Cheers
Huw

Possible I suppose... any way of testing?
