Default Escort Rs Turbo

Hi there, ive got a 1988 E reg Escort Rs Turbo, ive been having a bit of a problem, normally i put my key in the imobilizer, then i put my other key in the ignition and turn it and hear a noise, i think it is the fuel pump! well anyways i cant hear that noise anymore and cant start my car, the petrol reading doesnt go up either, so im pretty sure its something to do with fuel, i know there's petrol in, just under half a tank cause i never let my car run dry, any idea's of this probel or should i just take it to a garage ? thanks
my e-mail is toon_army2k2@yahoo.co.uk

Check your ignition fuse in the fuse box. The symbol on the cover of the fuse box should look like a key. If its not that then i think its a problem with your immobiliser.

it's not me fuse and its not the imobilizer, if it was the imobilizer the car wouldnt try to turn over it would do nothing when i turn the key, the car try's to start but no fuel is getting to through, ive check the relay and its fine so looks like its a fuel pump, anybody know if a can use a different fuel pump from a higher mk escort as mine is a mk4 and are hard to find these day's

FIXED it, i asked my mate "simon" if he could test if there was any power going to the fuel pump, he did this and found there was no juice going to it, so i said could you wire it striaght to the battery and test it that way, in the procedure of this he notice a connection was rotten and no longer a connection, anyways he's stuck me 2 new connections and the turbo's back on the road.
Thank's Si top top guy

Hi
Can you tell us which connection and where, so it might help somewhere else where to look?

I'd say that it was the connections on the actual pump that had rusted over the years from the weather

Bang on guy, when you jack the car up and look where the fuel pump is there is a couple of wire's to power the pump, well they were dog rotten and had came off, when you turn your key on the car you should hear the fuel pump then a click, the click is your fuel relay, thats how i knew mine was working, its the pink box under the dash, dont go to Ford for a new one lol there £55, people on ebay sell them for under £10. So if you cant hear your fuel pump its most probabily an electrical fault as the pumps are pretty sold made but nothing lasts forever, hope this help's somebody

Yup, I spent many an hour under the back of mine as it went once and the AA guy sorted it and then it went a few months later (he did tell me he had sorted it to get me home / to a garage to be sorted properly as he didnt have perfect connectors) but i forgot Anyway, when I knew what the prob was I made my own connectors and sorted it

LOL.

I know what your saying mate, just done mine, but I used a stainless after market cradle, all a bit

All I had to get was the black pump carrier that bolts to the chassis (bout £27 from Ford iirc) and the 3 X rubber mounts (about £4 each or somin )
