hi all just passed my test and got my first car 1996 fiesta 1242cc zetec car starts and drives perfect except for the idle which is high when stationary roughly idling at about 2200/2500 rpm have told its the air sensor is this easy to repair/replace any help/info would be brill dying to get out

 

idle control valve's knackered common fault!

 

either idle valve or coolant temp sensor, MAP sensor if it has one also, not overly familiar with the 1250cc fiestas

 

Think it would have MAF as with all modern engines but this won't be causing problem, as said ISCV do jam, normally removing and cleaning with WD40 or similar will do the job it sounds as if your one is partially jammed open hence the high idle. Does the idle speed remain high all the time or does it vary? You will find the valve on the T/B only held in by two bolts or screws it has a wiring plug on the top which un clips.

hi many thanks for your replies it only revs high when stationary or just when you start car up and when you pull up at lights ie slow down / handbrake on / out of gear revs up and stays will try and clean first unsure where exactly to look for the points mentioned can someone explain ( in new car owner terms)
